Can you consider this a tradition? Should it continue.....Should it never have stopped?

The Cajun Chicken was definately a great tradition. It never should have stopped.

While the Cajun Chicken had some pretty funny antics, I never understood its use. It has NO TIE-IN to the university. It is not a mascot and has nothing to do with Ragin Cajuns. If we had spent more time developing a mascot more suitable to the university, like a Pelican (State Bird), Catahoula (State Dog) or Bullgator (on campus swamp), instead of Mr. Cajun or the Pepper, we would be much better off today. In fact, the same Cajun Chicken character in a mascot costume would have had the same effect, but would have been tied in with the university all these years. Just another example of our failure to build some kind of tradition at UL. And what we do build, like the Cajun Chicken, has no permanent tie-in.

I would love to see someone like Max Patkin, Al Schacht or Nick Altrock. They were the Clowns of Baseball and put on one hell of a show. It would take a special person to do this. You don't need a mascot. All you need is someone to entertain the crowd. No props, just yourself doing nutty things on the field....

Keep in mind these were for professional baseball, albeit minor leagues. Colleges are different and, IMO, should incorporate collegiate tradition rather than a pro approach to entertainment.

Why knock Cajunman? He was a decent mascot. I did however like on Jay's show yesterday he talked about running live mascots onto the field. This would be really cool to have the Catahoula. I think the Bullgator and the Pelican are better mascots but the fact that UNO and Tulane already use them makes them off limits in my opinion. But I do agree with the fact that this university should have established something that tied into UL a long time ago and stuck with it rather than going through Bulldog, Cajunman, Chicken, Chayenne.....as you said, it's just another failure by this universities administration.
