Thread: LeBlanc to take finance position at university

  1. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . LeBlanc to take finance position at university

As incoming UL President Joe Savoie prepares to take the university's reins, the future face of his administration begins to reveal itself.

At Thursday's board meeting of the University of Louisiana System, board members will vote to approve the appointment of Jerry Luke LeBlanc as UL's Interim Vice President for Business and Finance.

The appointment offers a first glimpse into Savoie's administration and further points to his intent to take seriously the recommendations made in a fall 2007 institutional review of the university.

"There is probably more potential for advancement at UL than most any other university in the state, but potential is not the same as performance. UL is Lafayette's crown jewel, and we can only hope that one day it will reach its potential to help more students be the best that they can be. The new administration will certainly be different, but will it be better?"

UL would not be where it is today without the help of men like JLL! Please do not question this mans love or commitment to UL. He will do what it takes to move this place foward. Yes he gets paid very well, but someone with his qualifications could make alot more $$$ working in BR. Will things be better? I certainly hope so!

A university is big business and needs a CFO rather than a scholar for this position. This is not a teaching position. From what I have read, LeBlanc is playing a major role in the transition and may have legislative influence as well. How is this bad for UL?

Ok I went back and edited the quote. This was the main part of the quote I was refering to. Evryone knows in Louisiana that the good ole boy system is how things are run. We are lucky that in this case JLL loves UL.

I don't know which one of these comments are more ridiculous.

Inquirer: "Tee Joe takes the reins of ULL fresh from rounding up votes in the Legislature for a hefty tuition increase imposed on the backs of students and their parents. And students just learned they will face increased parking fees beginning this Fall."

-The tuition increase was long overdue, and came in very short of hefty, when compared to UL's peers.

TheSparrow: "The result is a university that cares more about athletics than about education, because athletics = entertainment = money, money, money!"

-UL cares more about athletics than education??? This person cannot be serious

swbulldog: "As politicians rather than scholars start filling the ranks of academic leadership, hope dims on UL Lafayette becoming a true center of academic excellence."

-First, I want my scholars in the class and in the labs. Just becasue they can teach and do research, doesn't mean they know what to do with $150MM every year. There are some areas in the Administration where scholars are probably needed, but not in the Business and Finance Area. Second, I suppose that they all missed the sentence that stated that this was an interim hire, and the position would be filled with a search process.

rhineaux, keep in mind that most of these comments come from the same bunch of naysayers everytime there is an article about UL. TheSparrow, Plainjane and many of the others that are posting comments in regard to thsi article are the same bunch that post negative comments in response to virtually every article about UL.

Which is why they aren't even worth bothering to read.
