Just the SEC football TV money equals the whole budget for every SBC school. He will get a substantial raise. Any success there can be utilized for better opportunities down the line.

I think he could have held out for a better program but like you said the substantial raise is hard to pass up. I just hope things work out for him cause vandy isn’t exactly known for graduating their coaches to better jobs minus Franklin and I guess dinardo

Unless Lamar Morgan thinks Napier is never moving on, (or that Napier wouldn't bring him along) I don't fully understand this temporary move.

I am with you here; I suppose he is not a believer that the grass isn't always greener on the other side; or should I say the "green" isn't always better on the other side, even if there is more of it.

    Seriously, I do........."the almighty dollar"

I don't know what he is making here and I don't know what he will be making @ Vandy, but I guarantee it is more at Vandy then at UL. So if he goes there for 1 or 2 years and they improve at all, then he has a chance to move to another job, it is always about bettering ones position. Granted I think security here is better than at Vandy, but money is better at Vandy. I think Lamar is trying to put himself in position to continue to move up the college ranks while making more money in the process.

So does he think Napier wouldn't bring him along? Because I believe he would make more money with Napier in 4 than whatever he accumulates with Vandy.

iirc Juluke is the only position coach making 6 figures. Lamar Morgan can easily make 2 to 3 times at Vandy what he is making here. While I hate to see him go, I never fault a man for doing what he thinks is best for him and his family.

As of 2018 salary list, all of our assistants were making more than $100K. I don't know if the replacements for those that left since then were making less than the previous coaches.

The long-term income potential of Napier assistants (who stay) is far greater than Vanderbilt assistants.

Possibly. Of course nothing is ever 100% certain, but I'd venture to say that if Napier gets his dream gig, he would certainly entertain hiring LaMar back wherever that might be, since I'm certain he is leaving on good terms.

I am not sure I follow the logic or math of this. How do you come this conclusion?

As of the start of the 2020 season, coach Morgan was making $145K in base salary. After checking, all of the coaches were making $100,000 or more.

The logic is twofold but first let me acknowledge that Vanderbilt is playing with Monopoly money and I have already noted that this is "jmo"

First: Napier and his assistants are going to end up at a program with more money than Vandy.

Second: I don't think Clark Lea will win at Vanderbilt, although he will get a long leash, based on Mason having 7 years. Vanderbilt hasn't had a winning season since 1993. So, when the inevitable happens, assistants who don't have a super long resume or ties to the school will be out in the cold. For example, Gerry Gdowski the last OC at Vandy was fired a year ago and is still unemployed. Jason Tarver the last DC at Vandy had 16-years of NFL experience, he is back in the NFL.

Lamar Morgan has a long row to hoe in the SEC. I hope he saves his money.

Did I mention this is jmo? No proof, just history.

Sure, I took it as just your opinion, I am curious in the logic. My logic is as follows:

    1. You very rarely see a whole staff go with a head coach. At best it is 50%, and even then that is on the very high side. So, I think assuming Morgan would be going with Napier to any new destination happens less than normal.

    2. Assuming Napier would take Morgan with him, how long Morgan would have to wait at UL for Napier is a variable that Morgan didn't have in his decision making process.

    3. There is also the assumption that wherever Napier goes, he is going to have success and a long tenure. Or at the very least, his assistant coaches become more wanted in the industry. I would argue the opposite: I think it is more likely that Lea lasts longer than Napier, because the expectations at Vandy are low. Last coach lasted seven years without much on-field success. So, I am not sure how temporary this gig would be for Morgan, compared to a Napier top tier job.

    4. Lastly, LM is coming off a pretty incredible year from a secondary perspective, with national prominence. His stock is very high right now. Yes, if he could back up with another great year, than it would be even better, but there is the 'bird in the hand' mentality.

Like yours, these are all just my opinions and can understand how this is a good decision for Lamar. It sure doesn't mean that it was easy or have downsides.
