Thread: Cajuns, Tigers to play again

  1. UL Basketball Cajuns, Tigers to play again

Robert Lee recently signed the contract, so as far as the UL men's basketball coach is concerned the games are set. The Ragin' Cajuns have agreed to a two-year deal to play LSU in Baton Rouge each of the next two seasons, starting with a non-conference matchup on Dec. 31 against the Tigers.

The programs have not played each other since an 81-62 win by LSU on Dec. 17, 2005. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 26-11.

"I signed the contract a few weeks ago, so I think there's a 99 percent chance that we're going to play," Lee said. "I think it's good that we're going to play again because I think we should play LSU every year. It's a Division I game only 45 minutes down the road. There's great fan interest on both sides. It's a game that people care about. It won't do anything but help both programs.

"It's good for the state of Louisiana."

Honestly, I think we might be the better team here. LSU is in a world of hurt talent wise and recruit wise. And with a new head coach, LSU is really vulnerable at this point. Could be a fun game for us Cajuns fans, I will predict, only about 50 tiger fans will show up. I feel sorry for LSU diehards sometimes. They can get so lonely when times are tough. But I respect those LSU diehards more than the Johnny come lately folk, or the MAJORITY of LSU's fanbase. You saw it in baseball during the first half of the year. You will prolly see it in Basketball this season. But good luck to Trent Johnson and the LSU basketball team. And I guess good luck to LSU's baseball team. They did have a great second half of the season and they did what it took. But football, no love for that program. Rot in hell LSU football!

Coach Lee is still required to play guarantee games in order to bring revenue into the program. With that being the case, might as well make it one with minimal travel expenses and where your fans can attend. Personally, I hope the game is in the afternoon. New Year' Eve Night will be tough for a lot of folks to make.

Agreed. LSU is the best money game we can play. Lets start to win some games in this series and then try to call our shots. I also hope the game is in the afternoon. New Years Eve night is a definite no go for me.

I've already ran it by the old lady and she is up for a day or night at the p-mac. Took her to her fist basketball game against WKU and she did not miss another. I would only hope it is mid-afternoon for other fans sake so we could have a good showing

I mean come on!! At what point are our coaches (Baseball and Basketball) going to say "you know what Skip, if you don't come to Lafayette, we don't come to Baton Rouge." If it is so good for the state, and everyone wants it, then do it right. Don't give me this BS of "oh its such a fan favorite yada yada yada, i'm tired of going to BR! If they are so high and mighty, come here just once. The last time i recall LSU coming down to Lafayette for anything was baseball for a mid-week game that we won. Other than that nothing. This s__t is really starting to p__s me off. I'd rather not play them at all than go there two years in a row regardless if we have the better team or if we win the game.

I can agree with the logic of going there to play but on a personal feeling if they do not want to come here in Basketball or baseball- Screw them.

A good point. And people say we dont "deserve" to be able to call the shots. But that may only count for football. Everyother sport a home/home should be in order. I will probably go to the game if it doesnt mess with my new years plans...last thing i want to do is spend a new years in BR, unless its after celebrating a Cajun Victory.

Cut Lee a little slack. He has to make some money some where, and this short trip is his pay ticket. As for me, I will not be there. Made a promise to myself a few years back...I ain't going on that campus to watch a game between the Bangles and the Cajuns, never ever!! I'll be therewhen they come to our campus, if I am still living!

I agree with Lee on going out there and tryin to get a series with LSU going, but why submit to the 2 years in a row in Kittyland, with the POSSIBLE game at the Dome in the future. Now i dont have to go into the percentages of that ever happening. I would be ok with 2 years over there and the definite game here the year after. And I am sure I will be at that point of gettin tired of going over there without the return trip. But at the moment, I am a student of UL and i support my team no matter where they go.

We have a very good chance of being pretty good the next few years. Let's play them wherever they want.

It's time for them to eat it.

A little anywhere, anytime attitude would be very handy.
