The Gators dropped the opening game of the 2008 WCWS to the La.-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns 3-2 in eight innings.

Florida opening the scoring on an RBI double by Corrie Brooks in the second inning, then added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by Aja Paculba.

UL senior Holly Tankersley hit her team-leading 22nd home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning. It was just the second home run allowed by Florida pitcher Stacey Nelson all season. The Cajuns tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Vanessa Soto.
