The right direction of your hands depends on the proximity of your audience.
Rule of thumb when doing the "I love UL" hand sign . . . if you point remember to point your thumbs to your left, both hands will say automatically say UL to the person(s) in front of you.
However if you raise your arms straight up in the natural position and do the sign you have 1 for the people in front and 1 for the people behind.
Ragin Pagin has had an avatar since it's inception in 2002.
The oldest picture of anyone doing the sign is one I took when I taught the 2002 Ragin Jazz to pose doing it.
Its use continues to grow but as recently as 2004 I was taking a picture of a group of "Volunteer Day" student volunteers and had to show the students how to make the sign.
Now you see it organically at every UL sporting event. It is a natural fit.
Our athletes themselves make the UL hand symbol all of the time. Which one of you trumps them?
I guess we shouldn't have a band... someone thought of that before us. I guess we shouldn't have a cheer... someone else already did that. Maybe we shouldn't wear the school colors... everyone does that. Maybe we shouldn't have the team come thru the tunnel... seen that done in bunches. Gee, what else could my candy azz whine about not doing because someone else does it?
The UL hand sign is currently in use. If you do it, do it like Boomer says... simple as that. If you don't want to make UL with "your" hand... don't do it... but I bet everything you've been doing with those hands isn't original.
As for knuckleheads that continuously cackle "why are talking about that, winning is our problem". That is analogous to the moronic "why are we looking for water, our thirst is the problem". Winning is a result of everything going right. Yep, even fans and players doing the UL hand symbol in a show of solidarity plays a part in it.
