Where are all the fans? If I didn't live in Houston and lived back in Lafayette, I would be attending. Why do people not go? It's not just this year, it's every year.

Crowds have not been that high by any stretch. Winning this year...then winning next year...and the next is what it takes to build the crowds back to the 7k to 9k we've had in glory years past.

With that said, though, I've seen some games on TV this year involving some pretty solid athletic programs...and I've seen MANY half filled arenas. Can't explain it. I guess the competition from so much sporting events on TV doesn't help.

It will be hard to get the fans back, I agree with a couple of good season it should get better. You now have a football team that plays late in to December and a baseball team that will hopefully continue to be a top 25 power.

With the team doing so well, it would be great to have the team play to larger crowds. I guess families stay home or go to their own kids practices/game or work late. Even on a weeknight, tickets plus food and drink for a family of two, three or four can get expensive. I guess the question is the trade off. A basketball game instead of...

I go no matter what. I go to football, basketball, baseball, softball...no matter what. Many on this board are "no matter what fans". There are fewer no matter what fans than there used to be.

How do we draw more "no matter what's?". Is it winning that supposed to do it? Does the university/athletics market to younger to middle aged adults? 18-40?

The price of being a no matter what fan has gone up over the years. Rcaf, tickets and especially concessions have gone up. It's tougher for families to go to sporting events with the cost.

We have not had a winning season when you count only D1 games since 2005. Takes a while to overcome that. It may take something as drastic as getting into the NCAA tournament, pulling an upset, and then starting strong the following season to get good crowds into the Dome again. I will say the people who have been going to the recent games seem to support the team more enthusiastically than in the recent past. I think those people appreciate the effort the team is exhibiting. It is unfortunate that the best crowd we had this year came in the WKU game which was a loss and not one of our better performances. Now, folks who came Saturday may be encouraged to attend one of the last two home contests. We also need folks to support the team at the conference tournament in New Orleans on the weekend of March 13-16.

It's hard for me to answer that because in my case I don't even have to think about it. My father began taking me to basketball games and track meets when I was 2 or so. I went all thru grade school...then all thru college. I immediately began buying season tickets.

My point is that I didn't have to be sold or talked into it. I never even considered that there was another approach to being a fan. For the masses, it will take winning...a LOT of winning...and winning consistently. The non-"no matter what fans" have other events and options competing for their time and support. So they won't just show up out of the blue. BUT...they WILL show up the more a team is winning. A example is this year's season ticket sales in baseball. We were down a bit the last 3 or so years, so season ticket sales were down. We had a good season last year, so this year there was increased demand for tickets. And if this year we meet expectations, look out next year.

    Winning attracts more fans.
