Robichaux upbeat following Sunday’s game against MSU.

THIBODAUX — Louisiana’s baseball squad is mired in a seven-game losing streak, the longest ever under head coach Tony Robichaux.

So why was the Ragin’ Cajun boss more upbeat — only slightly so, but still more — after his team’s 4-3 10-inning loss to McNeese State on Sunday?

Maybe it was because, for the first time in that streak, the Cajuns had a chance, or several chances, to escape with a much-needed win.

“A lot of games before this one, we really haven’t put ourselves in a position to win,” Robichaux said. “Sunday we did. Now what we have to do is build on that and learn how to come back and win.”

The Cajuns get that opportunity tonight when they travel to face Nicholls State (12-8) in a 6:30 p.m. mid-week contest at Didier Field. Louisiana returns home following tonight’s game for a weekend series against Illinois-Chicago beginning Friday.
