4 game series. We come back and win 3 to 1. We will still be ranked and all will be good.
Exactly... I expected to see a few "sky is falling" posts but I'm glad the majority of this board has a grasp of baseball. Good wake up call for this team. GEAUX CAJUNS! Can't wait for the DH tomorrow
In football, they are FCS, but in baseball they are just classified as Division 1 and complete along with us toward the College World Series.
Football has a few more classifications (subdivisions - FBS, FCS) than baseball, basketball ...
btw ... Sean Payton, Tony Romo, Mike Shanahan, and a few other were student-athletes there
You're analogy is incorrect. We were not focused last night. We didn't battle at the plate. We were not "paying attention" on defense. We were not "paying attention" on the base path ( the few times that we were on base). We did not come into this game with the intensity needed. We probably thought that we were so good that we could just "show up" and get an automatic win. E Illinois came in with much less talent but much more WANT. This was not "just baseball", we didn't have any "fight" in us. We need to correct this quickly! I think we will and will be successful the rest of the weekend. I think if Tony sees this happening again, the guys currently on the bench will get an opportunity.
You're right about softball. Year in and year out they have high expectations and they live up to them more often than not. As for baseball, anyone who watched last years team knows how good they are, but last nights performance was simply god awful. The hype always seems to get to this team. All will be forgiven with a series win though.
That is quite an assumption. I believe you should add "In my Opinion" as well. You come off quite omniscient in your rebuttal. How do you know the guys weren't pressing too much? So much excitement built up that they were trying too hard? I don't know these answers but certainly you don't either. Tony said after the game last night that they had a very good pitcher who kept us off balance all night with good command of the breaker. That is what I witnessed (along with an inconsistent ump behind the plate) but you will rarely hear Tony mention anything about the umpire. He also added that the guys were too amped up and needed to settle down, and that they will. Baseball is a tough game. More mental than physical. That is coach speak in many different sports, but more so the case in baseball than any other sport. Just a few days ago I posted the difference in talent we will have this year. And how we have a top 5-10 caliber team assembled, but don't think we won't lose a game to a Nicholls or Southeastern who will not have as much talent as we do. Although I didn't mention Eastern Illinois the same logic can be used with them. It's part of baseball.
You are correct. It is my opinion, and I'm still disappointed from last night. But, I've been in the same situation many times in my 18 years of coaching kids and I saw it coming early on in the game. I was hoping that we could pull out of it before the game ended. Tony will have their attention today.
