Thread: What factors determine consistency?

Excellent post just1more. LSU probably had more new players this year that had been drafted, than any team in the country. Manieri rolled the balls out and they jelled in 30 games. My point about Army was extreme, but to the point that leadership is no cure all.

Cajunbaseball1... While we are trying to make valid points, you are looking for anything you can to insult those people posting on this board.

The original post about Nolan Gisclair was stating that the team's attitude to start the season was overconfident. Nolan's remarks (whether quoted completely accurate or not) were brought up to back up the statement that this team overlooked a competitive conference schedule. When that overconfidence was popped in the jaw, the lack of leadership emerged and resulted in this past season.

My comment about partying after the game was a personal opinion about lack of passion for the game. It is my own opinion. I could not have brought myself to go out and party after losing two to UNO when we were in the driver seat and had no shot at an at-large bid.

We were plenty talented this year, but so were most of the teams we played. Good teams find a way to win. We never came up with the big hit or defensive play. Hell, everyone in the stands held their breath every time a ball was hit on the infield. This team was too talented to put up such a poor showing.

Dad04... I will never say that girl scouts with good leadership can win the college world series. You have to have the talent. This program has gotten to the point where we get the talent. The missing link is the leadership/attitude/swagger whatever you want to call it.

I am fully behind this program and have spent 20 of my 23 years sitting in those stands watching the game I love. I would have given everything I had to wear that uniform. Tony has built a program where we expect to win.

Hopefully this feeling festers during the offseason and we come out with a bang. I will be renewing my season tickets as soon as possible and will begin my 21st year of Cajun baseball next spring.

Once again you did not SEE the player you're talking about at a party right? How do you know he went out and partied? I mean you're always at bars stalking baseball players how come you didn't see him out partying with all his friends screaming woohoo the season is over I'm so happy. You have no idea what that player or what any players did that night unless you yourself who apparently are always lurking (speaks well for your character) around bars talked to/harassed the player.

I don't know what sitting in the bleachers for 20 years qualifies for? Why do people on this board have to try and qualify themselves for something by saying they played HS baseball or they have been at every game this year. You're no more qualified than my grandma, so stop giving everyone your ''credentials''. That goes for not only just you so don't get too offended.

I'm not trying to insult, I'm trying to prove to you and other people on this board that this board is not to BASH our players. 20 years in the bleachers half drunk talking to your friends doesn't give anyone the right to bash an individual that does get to suit up 60 games a year for a D1 program. If anyone has been insulting people its YOU. So either post the team needs better defense, offense, pitching, or whatever you want. But, stalk players around just to get some dirt to write on this board or assuming you know what a player did when you didn't see them out partying all night can't be tolerated. I'm pretty sure that if any of those players were face to face with you they would show you how much heart they put into each time they stepped on the field.

I love it when ex ball players competitive testosterone kicks in on what it takes to win. Even if the ball player went winless on the field he knows more about winning than a fan in the stands. Fans know more about how to enjoy a win and ball players know more about how to put he game behind them. Except and until it's really behind them.

Where this stalking stuff came from, I have no idea. I was at Legend's after the game just like 100 other cajun baseball fans and I saw what I saw that one time. You seem to be making as much up as you claim I am.

Funny you say talk about how the team needs better defense, offense, pitching. That's what this all started as. How to you get better defense, offense, and pitching? We had the talent. We needed someone to step up and take charge.

I work 70 hrs a week sometimes more, can I complain. LOL. The truth of the matter is, nobody knows why we were average this year. Not even the players, or they would have fixed it. Sometimes players just get in a funik, they cant get out of. One thing I can say is, without Coach Robe and the Fans buying those season tickets and donations the program wouldnt be where it is today. Everyone is just upset, usually we can count on baseball and softball to make us feel better about our athletic year. This year thank god for the lady cajuns.

    Interesting.

The team was probably more relaxed/confident with Moody on the mound. Just knowing his history probably relieved some of the tension.

I can see where this quite confidence would allow the whole squad to play better. I wonder how the run production matched up for each pitcher.

I'll add a post that comments on the ORIGINAL point of this thread, which was "what determines consistency?" I think consistency comes down to TALENT!! If you have good coaching to begin with and he/she gets enough talent in and coaches them to their potential year after year, you end up with a consistently successful program. When you have a year or two where your recruiting is down a bit, you (we) pay for it!

By the way, it also helps if you have a "Nate Nelson" type of leader on your team to help that coaching staff get the team to work, practice and play to their highest potential!

"What factors determine consistency?" A consistent lineup, that is what fall ball is for.
