However, if we don't get there, the possibility of the lesser known tournaments does exist. If that situation does arise, do you still think we should tell the guys that we don't think you did enough to warrant post season play. Only acceptable answers here are YES or NO. You still have not answered my first question as to how you would justify a NO answer to the players on the team. A response should not deal with anything else but answering the questions I have posed.
No...we do not go to leftover love fest. The flip side is ok, we go, EP (or anyone) blows a knee in crap game. Then Marlin catches hell from some fans. A program should have goals, not pizza party/coke/trophy tournaments.

After the NIT, media really doesn't care and other than teams involved nobody gives a damn.

The answer, put another way, should be in the event the leftover tournament is in play is, "Men, when we met at the beginning if the season, our goal was NCAA or NIT. We failed, season over."

    Clear enough?

To put it in perspective, master plan. If not delivered as PERCEIVED without plans and engineering done, folks won't be happy. Basketball stated March as the goal. NOBODY perceived March to mean third tier leftover tournament.

Sorry, I want the teams I pull for to win. If I wanted to settle, I'd want to be in the SLC so we all could be warm and fuzzy with the McNeeses of the world. No thanks.

I could crap gold bars for an answer and you won't like it. We're all entitled to opinions, I respect your right to have one now respect mine.

As far as challenge, I've answered you more than once and in multiple ways I'd hope a Cajun grad would understand. If you can't, please remove the vermilion colored glasses.

In the mean time, find me a team with a fan base proudly chanting "We're #2! We're #2!"

    Go UL!

    I get both sides.
I think whatis trying to be said here is that if one of those lower tourneys comes our way we will take it. But with that said we can't say we succeeded in our mission. Our mission is march. That's NCAA tourney. If our mission fails it doesn't mean we won't accept NIT, or the other 2, but if we do we better not try to say we succeeded in our mission. JMO

Pretty darn close, my only caveat is coach and team discuss this leftover tourney scenario prior to season starting, not in March.

I never said I did not respect an opinion. I just had a hard time getting a simple yes or no to a simple question. I appreciate it that you finally answered it. You would turn the invite down and then tell the guys the goal was not met and therefore they did not deserve to continue playing. However neither you or I will make the decision if it has to be made. I suspect what will happen in such a situation is that the team would be given the choice and I am highly confident they would accept it. You don't have to attend the game if you don't care to if it happens to be at home. I would attend simply because I enjoy watching my team play regardless of the circumstances. I also think playing in such games helps prepare them for next season. That does not mean we would be happy with not getting further. Let's be honest here, no matter how hard they work it is unlikely they can win the tournament simply because they don't have enough overall talent. Now, as I said before, what they think is much more important than what I believe.

You can't take a dump on the whole season and 7 comments later say "win out and all is well" if your gunna hate then clock in and hate, nothin worse than a hater who can't come to terms with his hate. Im also glad you came to your senses

I agree with the above post. Just because we go to a post season tournament other than the NCAA does not mean the team reached it's goal. I do not think anyone would say that. They would say they are disappointed at not reaching the goal but simply appreciate the opportunity to play more games.

Winning makes everyone happy, that's all I'm saying. Ask any coach or fan.

The real opportunity is for someone to make more money off qualitity starved basketball fans with the lessor invites. It's not about the players or recognition. It's the money, none of which we would really see.

Appreciate the banter. I'm out, going enjoy the sunshine He is blessing us with today.

Your description (money, media attention, etc.) of this tournament fits for about 1/2 of the bowl games yet all schools still want to participate.

Understood and agreed. But I'm not sure many people left Thursday night feeling happy! Continuing to blow double digit leads and missing multiple free throws are going to kill us come March! Seriously, I think we shoot better at the line in away games!!

For some strange reason we do shoot better at the line in away games. Only way I can explain that is the guys feel more pressure at home since the fan base has been on their case all year about this. They just need to be mentally stronger, focus more at the line, and let their muscle memory take over.

I would say it is pretty much 99.9% about the money in college sports. Just do not see too much attention to that golf championship for the NCAA. Don't recall any mention of those 300 games in the bowling championships.

Look, if people do not want to go to an off brand tournament then do not go, the young men deserve to play wherever they can play. Zoom, Zoom is just wrong in this matter when it comes to them, but he is free to NOT GO.
