UL Grad goes from Janitor to head of the class
PORT BARRE - For the last 26 years, Joseph Gabriel Sonnier spent a great deal of his time cleaning Port Barre Elementary classrooms from top to bottom.
He is a janitor. Every day after the school's classrooms empty of students and teachers, Sonnier sweeps, takes out the trash and mops.
But Saturday, Sonnier, 46, graduated from the University of Louisiana as a highly qualified teacher.

Perhaps, and I sincerely hope, that his life will be an inspiration for those students he will encounter each day. From small acorns mighty oaks grow.
I am so proud of this UL alumnus' accomplishments. It's a great day to be a Ragin Cajun!
