In my search for doc material I have so far seen us labeled: southwestern, southwestern state, southwestern Louisiana state, swla,swslu, southern Louisiana, usl, south louisiana, bulldogs, Cajuns, ragin Cajuns and cajons-no typo. This is also only during a 3 yr period.

take this thread for what it is not a lengthy discussion about the university of Acadiana, just thought some might like to know its actually better...kinda

Reading this...I actually think the majority of this disambiguation with our name is done for spite. There are teams with much more difficult to comprehend designations...and we rarely hear of them pulling a Lafayette Leopards on anyone...but us. Maybe it's just because we aren't anyone else...and we can't see past our own fences...but I don't see anyone else in a tizzy this much because of what they are called by the media. Troy to ESPN is Troy...not Troy State...not University of Alabama @ Troy. They are called what they want to be called. There has to be some kind of push for this kind of thing to happen.

point taken, at this point I think its now akin to putting a piece of packaging tape on a cats paw...if you don't know what I mean try it and see what happens
