Cushion or no cushion that was a big time save.

    First of many, I hope.

Danny Farquhar Making The Most Of His Chance to Close Games With Seattle Mariners

Former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun pitcher Danny Farquhar is certainly making the most of his chance to close games for the Seattle Mariners. The 26-year old right-hander, who had never earned a save in his Major League Baseball career prior to this month, is a perfect 5-for-5 in save opportunities in the month of August.

Farquhar, who inherited the Mariners closer role on August 3rd, after Tom Wilhemsen was taken out of that role, has allowed only two hits, with no walks, while recording eight strikeouts, without allowing a run in 5.1 innings of work.

To make his stretch even more impressive, Farquhar has a 0.38 WHIP, and has only thrown 55 pitchers to 15 hitters during that span, which is an average of less than four pitches for every hitter he’s faced.

He hasnt given up a run in his last 10 appearances. ERA is down from 7.61 to 4.70 over that span

Also, forgot to mention that Luc got a hit off of him this past Sunday. That was the only AB that they faced each other

As of last night, he now has 5 saves, faced three batters last night, and struck out two of them in one inning of work.

"One highly respected scout says right now the three best closers in the American League are Greg Holland, Koji Uehara and Farquhar, which would not go over well with whoever wants the next Papelbon contract."

    Nice praise, very nice.
