Thread: Landry Named SBC Postgraduate Scholar

  1. Research Landry Named SBC Postgraduate Scholar

SAN DESTIN, Fla. - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns senior golfer Morgan Landry (Lafayette, La.) was one of two Sun Belt Conference student-athletes to receive the Postgraduate Scholarship Award at the league's annual spring meetings held at the Hilton San Destin.

Morgan Landry holds a 3.7 GPA while majoring in Finance and was named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He earned Academic All-American honors in 2007. A four-year letterwinner on the golf team, Landry played in every tournament as a sophomore and junior and helped the Ragin' Cajuns to the 2007 Sun Belt championship.

He has a career stroke average of 75.4, including averages of 75.5 (2008), 75.0 (2007) and 74.9 (2006) over the last three seasons.

Landry has never received a grade lower than a "B" and has received an "A" in 11 of his last 16 courses. He has earned Dean's List honors all seven of his completed semesters and posted a perfect 4.0 GPA while taking 15 credit hours in the Fall of 2006.

Landry was one of six student-athletes the Sun Belt Conference recognized for their significant accomplishments during Tuesday night's Honors Banquet. The conference presented WKU's Crystal Kelly and Denver's Adam Holmstrom as the Sun Belt Student-Athletes of the Year, and Denver's Alyssa Hampton and WKU's Benjamin Brown as Sporting Behavior Award winners.

WKU's Meredith Goodson joined Landry as winners of the Postgraduate Scholarship Awards.

  2. Research UL golfer Landry earns scholarship award

If the primary goal of college athletics is to provide opportunities for education and success after college - as it should be - then Morgan Landry is the Sun Belt Conference's leading goal achiever.

The Ragin' Cajun senior golfer was honored at the Sun Belt's recent spring meetings with the league's Postgraduate Scholarship Award, selected from all of the conference's male athletes from all sports. He'll be attending graduate school, likely either at UL or LSU, courtesy of the league, along with female winner Meredith Goodson of Western Kentucky.

"To win that honor, out of all the sports, I can't think of any better honor," said Landry, a graduate of Lafayette High and a four-year letterman on the Cajun squad. "I've always said it would either be golf or graduate school, and this came at a perfect time."
