South Louisiana PublishingLAFAYETTE — Bob Bass admitted it … sometimes he doesn’t listen to his family really well.
Louisiana's golf coach will be the host coach once again Sunday through Tuesday for the 18th annual Louisiana Classics Golf Tournament at Oakbourne Country Club, and he’ll welcome another impressive field.
“It’s our only home tournament of the year,” Bass said, “and my brother always told me that it was like homecoming. And for homecoming, you’re supposed to invite patsies.”
That’s never happened in the history of the Louisiana Classics, and it’s not happening again this year as a virtual who’s who of collegiate golf descends on the 7,002-yard par-72 Oakbourne course beginning with Sunday’s college-am event that pairs players with local amateurs and hosts.
Actual competition tees off Monday with a 7:30 shotgun start, with the teams playing 36 holes Monday. The final 18-hole round on Tuesday has tee times beginning at 7 a.m. Monday and Tuesday’s play is open to the public at no charge.
The 15-team field includes Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Missouri, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Southern Mississippi, Texas A&M, Texas-San Antonio, Texas Tech and Tulsa along with the host Louisiana squad.
