Don't Get Upset: Rickey Bustle Standing in the Gap

The Cajuns will have no more difficult time task of beating USM and UTEP than the better teams in the sunbelt. CUSA is no better than sunbelt in football. Two years ago beating the best team in the C USA but not coming close to winning sunbelt was no fluke, neither was FAU and Troy easily winning the past two NO bowls, it is just the reality of things. The better half of the sunbelt is just as good as or better than the vast majority of teams in any of the non BCS conferences. _

I'm glad to see that reality is making an impression. It also occurred (except for Memphis bball) in men's basketball and baseball.

The only problem I see is we have not really contributed much to "the cause" outside the football win over U-Hou in 2006.

UL Ragin Cajun softball has a chance to make a big statement this weekend re: SBC vs. CUSA.

Couldn't disagree more. Southern Miss is not a huge upset. I don't think Kent would be an upset at all and I don't look at UTEP as being a major upset either. Personally, I think with some improvement on D, we can be a darkhorse to win the league. Troy will take a step back, no doubt about it. You don't replace what they are and return to that level when you are in the sunbelt. FAU was peaking at the right time last year and I just don't see them as being a great team. Ricky has been given more time, more revenue than anybody at UL a lot more. This is the 7th year and it looks like it will take an incredible string of upsets to even get to .500 this year. Good luck to Ricky, but to be honest his tenure has been at best average given the resources he has to work with.

Given the bipolar nature of the football team the last 3 years, every game could be at least a minor upset. Defeating any team that went to a bowl last year is a water-to-wine miracle. _

It's all in the definition of "upset". I guarantee any of the opposing team's coaches, should we beat them this year, are going to be "upset". In addition, their fans are going to believe it was an "upset" for a 3-9 team to beat them. However, from the list of teams above, I cannot call any game much of an "upset". The ones you call HUGE are going to be "surprise victories" should they occur. No team on that list deserves the label "upset" against our win, unless it is by a landslide margin of victory. And no sportscaster is going to call it a "HUGE upset today in college football".

As for "bipolar"... I think I know what you mean... but football has been "polarized" to the middle for the past 3 years, with last year being a horrible defensive and special teams effort (not including SC... I thought we were on to something when we went pretty much toe to toe with South Carolina). The Ohio game is where I noticed defensive slow motion and limited skills. I think the year went into the tank when we got "upset" by McNeese. SC being a high, the Ohio rip off (MD being called down), and McNeese... 3 losses and an ego bust to start the year.

If our defense and special teams play like last year, we win 3 games. If they make marked improvement, we add 3. Add to that... if the ball doesn't bounce our way, take 2 of those away... if it bounces our way, add 2 more. Prediction... we win 3 to 8 games with this program.

michael vick made coach bustle, without another qb with phenomenal athleticism, his offensive schemes won't work.

i am tired of hearing for 7 years that this will be a rebuilding year, and it is true, dr. a. ran off the best coach we had during the 90's.
