If softball is not a major sport, then why did LSU consistantly pursue and eventually get one of the top softball coaches in the country, Yvette Girourd? Why not just use an "also ran" coach to pacify the NCAA Title IX? If softball is not a major sport, then why does LSU fight to get a regional every single year? I mean, isn't that an awful lot of trouble for something that doesn't mean anything? If softball isn't a major sport, then why does LSU go after the top talent in the country and consistantly try to be in the top 25 of the country? That seems to be wasteful spending of valuable dollars out of LSU's budget for the "major" sports. Seems to me that they ought to just open their doors and take whatever walks in the door.
You are right about softball not being a major sport. That's only if you compare it to football, baseball, and basketball. But it is major in it's own right and UL,LSU and other universities recognized this. It is a sport that is still growing. It's more popular than gymnastics, track, lacrosse and other sports, don't you think? Yeah, Title IX forced some schools into starting their programs, but Title IX didn't force them to pump millions of dollars into state of the art stadiums and increased budgets. So, if and when LSU is in the national title game at the WCWS, I guess that we'll all see the DA print on the front page another article about how all of the state is supposed to be showing their pride and support the Tigers. On second thought, never mind. It's not a major sport. _

And I think that an LSU fan's attempt to downgrade another program's success (particularly when it's at your team's expense) is beyond pathetic.

Everyone out there will just have to excuse this Tiger! He simply proves the theory that it is better to remain quiet and appear to not know anything than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. It all depends on how you define "major" sport. Based on what? Athletic budget, revenue from that sport, popularity - and how do you measure that. And if you are a parent of a student-athelete, I can promise you that whatever that child is playing is a major sport to the parent and the student-athelete.

My son plays baseball for UL and we went to the Regional game Sunday in BR. It was my first college softball game to ever attend and I was impressed by the play and the game itself. But what REALLY made an impression on me was that it appeared to be 3 to 1 Cajun fans in Tiger Park over the home crowd. LSU's coach even made this comment in the postgame interview. So apparently GCT doesn't think softball is a major sport at LSU and obviously so do a lot of other TIGER "fans". But from what I saw THE CAJUN FANS absolutely view softball as a major sport and rightfully so!

UL fans were simply enjoying the NCAA regional victory.

In the context of the regional there was no post prior to yours (and Real Cajun) where anyone ranked softball. It was you who decided to state softball's place in the world.

In other words nothing pathetic happened until you and RC gave your slant.

Actually, you could not be following tiger baseball attentively because you spend far too much time quibbling on this forum.

If I identify myself as a Cajun fan on a Tiger forum, I don't even have to make a remark and get "personally attacked". I find that you and Sissy get a lot wider berth on here than a Cajun fan gets in Tigerland.

No UL fan got on here and made the statement that women's softball is a "major sport". You had to interject your opinion in the middle of our celebration. The significance of the softball regional victory over LSU has much more to do with a bit of history. Other than that, I think we (UL) are all prepared to move on to the super regional.

If LSU had won the regional, you would not be on here (likely at all) but certainly not to downplay the significance of NCAA womens softball. I find your need to overstate your opinion on that matter far more pathetic than anyone from UL "boosting softball".

And by the way, I have many LSU buddies that don't care for LSU baseball or basketball... they say that the only "major sport" is college football... but have big enough nads to say THAT is their OPINION.

Have a good day. I hope things are great in Grand Coteau (nice place).

yeah, but i get cut a little slack since i have a future UL grad [probably 2] on the dole. and, coincidentally, it is the 'sissy' part of my handle you so cleverly culled out that represents the soon-to-be UL grad [if a year can be "soon"]! she thanks you, sir.
