Thread: LA vs. UT Arlington

Look, I'm not going to discredit the hard fought effort of these men tonight. That's the kind of offensive juggernaut I like to see each night. What I CAN'T credit is Marlin in this. I'm sorry, but building 20+ point leads in a college game should NEVER get down to low single digits. And it damn sure shouldn't happen multiple times in one game. You have got to teach these kids how to go for the jugular and close this stuff out.

I feel like we lost 3-4 crucial games this year because of this issue. But the best part is, we know what it's going to take for us to win. Long & Payton doing their thing and then someone else stepping up. It seems like this formula makes us dominant.

Good road win by the team tonight, but we can't go to GSU or WKU and blow leads

Basketball is a game of runs. We made ours, they made theirs. UTA took Georgia State to overtime at Georgia State the other night.

Big leads evaporate in college basketball all the time. Especially, when you are playing a good team at their place.

UTA is not a good team. We are barely a good team. We can continue to spin it if we want to, but we are only good when we get a great game out of someone else beside the big two.

I have pretty much made up my mind that Marlin won't get the program back to the Fletcher/Evans era, but with Stove coming in next year and Peyton and Long we should win. Hopefully he can build something after next season when we will likely lose two great players.

Isn't building a good lead early part of what happens in basketball? For this very reason? Momentum can shift on a dime.

It is precisely how we have lost games this year. This time, we were on the right side of getting our points early enough to escape with a win.

I'm glad we were able to do that, and with 8 games left in conference, maybe we can keep it up.

One more thought.... we win 3 more games, we have our best seasons in the last decade. Just sayin'.

Just remember HUD took a 3-9 team and went 9-4 in his first year. Just sayin'.

    And won a bowl game.

So the same guys that got you a 20 point lead get credit, but when the same players don't keep that lead they don't get blamed?? It's on the coach then? Marlin had nothing to do with the 25 point lead, only the part when it slipped.

We'll that makes sense. Sarcasm off

    ^What dms4720 said.

Also, so what?! I've been told by some rather angry folks on this board that they want wins and losses. That's all that matters to them.

Well, guess what? We're on track to having a pretty good record this year, one of the best if we keep it up.

Isn't that what you people call "results"?

And like other folks have pointed out, what Hud did is an aberration.

To be at this point in a rebuild of four years is the aberration in basketball. You need only one or two outstanding players, and well we have those, plus a pretty solid senior in Mabamalu. No our boy Bob is way behind, this is basketball not football where you have twenty two starters, and usually a couple of specialist. Not many people get five years to turn a program around, but Bobby will get that and more.

By the way you really need to subtract three victories this season, I mean we got wins against non 1A schools, the NCAA does not count them for seeding purposes in the tournament. That record is nothing without those three wins.

If you want to stand up for Bob, that is OK, hope you stood up for Marty who had a much more outstanding four years, but was never accepted.

And we didn't play some of those schools in prior years? Come on.

OK, so instead of 14/23, we are 11/20. Certainly still above .500, with the potential to be even better. Still significant improvement.

Amazing how it's all on the players when we win, but all on the coach when we lose. Cognitive dissonance, anyone?

As far as standing up for Bob versus Marty... really? Are we really gonna have a pee-peeing contest about who was more vocal and when?

My point is that this team is seeing one of its better years, and there are some people who view it as freakin' Armageddon. I know some folks will never be happy.... and yes, you have every right to criticize what's goin' on... but man, the negativity is overwhelming and useless in my view.

If we are really in such a derth of good coaching, maybe the folks with bigger pockets should put their money where their mouth is and give more to RCAF to get better.

And ya know, we can whine and moan about how far behind we are, and who's fault it was, or we can try to help this team in whatever way we can to get better and do better. We can accept that some stuff sucked in the past, for whatever reason, and try to move forward.

If it's about wins and losses, then look at the stats. We're moving up. I never expected overnight Final Four appearances, and neither should anyone else.......

Free Throws are not nearly as easy as people think they are but we should be a more consistent team from the stripe to say the least, especially with a guard oriented team
I think instead of knucking your teammates after a missed free throw, each one should _____ slap you. I think free throw percentages would go up by an average of 10% across the board. An extra point kicker has a snapper and holder to depend on, he's got 11 animals trying to either bull rush him or jump up and block it, and he's timing a move forward during a snap to plant and kick a funny shaped ball in outdoor conditions. A free throw shooter has none of these obstacles. There are 80 year old men and 12 year old girls that shoot better than 70% from the line. As a basketball player on scholarship, these cats need to get that damn ball in the basket during "free throws". Period. All of the pathetic precedents be damned!
