How about Cedric Hill versus Chuck Person. That was a game within the game. A slugfest back and forth all night long like two heavyweights going the distance. It's been along time ago but I think both Cedric and the Cajuns won that night.
After four year, Marty Fletcher's record was 60-58. At this stage Coach Marlin is 58-59, with a few games to go in Year 4. He has a chance to be similar to Marty as far as being over 0.500 goes following Year 4 with a good finish. Both guys played a few non D1 games in the time period. Marty did have a 20 win season in Year 4, so that was the turnaround Year. We likely won't do that this year but we have a decent chance to have an overall winning record vs D1 competition. As I have said before, this is Coach Marlin's 2nd year of rebuilding due to the turmoil that occurred at the end of 2012. I won't argue he bears responsibility for some of that but the fact remains this is the 2nd year of the rebuild.
Since you are answering me, I never blame the players except if they are acting like the ones we had a couple of seasons ago. I always give credit and blame to the coaches in college, because he recruits the players, develops the players, and in the end gets these huge contracts, and Bobby Boy's is very nice for what he has done so far.
So your solution is more money. No better coaches can cost more money, but not always. In any case I could give Bobby Boy another two million a year and he would be not a bit better.
The only reason I bering up Marty was because he was crucified by lots of fans. He was playing some great teams and yes it took a while for him to do it, but he caught Tim Floyd and was beating Floyd coached teams on a regular basis when Floyd moved up. Other outstanding coaches he was playing against Tommy Joe Eagles of La Tech. So far none of those coaches that Bobby Boy has coached against stack up well vs those two.
Your coach, my coach, you love him want to give him an unending amount of time, I think it will make little difference.
He will be here for 2014/15 and that my friend is a half a decade. That is one quality position a year he better be better than 20 wins in the S-B-C for me to jump on his bandwagon. He will not reach twenty this year, and after four years that is about typical, about average, and I guess that is what turns you on being ok, typical, average. He is one of the highest paid coaches in the SBC so your little challenge about money is just plain silly.
Ok Mike here we go, Marty had wins in his first four years against: Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Georgia, Washington State, Huggins led Cincinnati, Petino led Kentucky, Penn State, Ole Miss. So Mike there are records, and there are records. Name me a couple of marquee wins by Bob Marlin. Only reason I bring up Marty was that he actually was blasted by the fans, and he had some really big wins. In his fifth season he beat Oklahoma two times, once as Sun Belt Champs in the NCAA, and once in the regular season.
I know I must have forgotten it, but I cannot recall one marquee win for Bob. Marty was bring in talent, and I keep hearing Marlin is not much of a recruiter. The Floyd led teams, and the Tommy Joe Eagle led teams would have eaten up the current SBC. The Western Kentucky team we beat would have beaten every team in the current SBC. We talking apple and oranges only similar counts on those apples and oranges.
Heading into year five, a half decade Mike, and I am waiting for the first sign, the first sign.
i think you missed the point, he meant give money to pay someone else more. not give bob more money.
