Thread: Illegal PITCH??

UL Softball Re: Could Somebody Give Me That Illegal Pitch Thing Again

I am watching UCLA and Georgia and the Georgia pichter is so far off the rubber you can call it two illegal pitches. Her left foot is on the circle or near it before she releases the ball. The UCLA pitcher sames to be having contact with the rubber before release.....

I looked at NCAA site for fastpitch softball pitching rules on what consittutes an illegal pitch. I wish I hadn't. Now I have to consult an attorney to translate. There are a number of things one can do to pitch illegally. The hop thingy is one of them. Needing to drag the foot is the other. Lots of hopping and non-dragging going on. I do think you can chew while pitching though. Wonder if that would distract the opposing batters?

the plant foot CAN leave the rubber as long at it's dragging and not "flying" off the rubber.

it's usually a bullshat call that gives the umpire some sence of importance and is done to throw off the rhytm of the pitcher who's team is not paying you to be there. ;o)

The UCLA pitcher came the closest but she too was not in contact with the rubber. _
Theres no doubt the Houston coach had talked to the officials while y'all were in the process of changing pitchers. He called it on the first pitch and didnt watch her again through the end of the 6th. We had to leave at that point and dont know about the 7th.

Most of these girls are airborne, no foot dragging.

There's no question that one of the Houston coaches informed the umps about AB's tendancies. Then again, they didn't call a single IP all night on Friday, so KingCajun's theory that it's mainly something for the umpires to do to feel important is likely pretty close to accurate. I did notice that every time they would call it on AB, ML would go out and talk to the ump to ask him about it. Finally, after the third one, he was able to get the umpire to give some sort of explanation to AB so she would know what she was doing wrong and could stop.

After watching those 3 games, I came away with the feeling that that crew was very difficult...from the bad calls, to the inconsistent strike zones, their pause after every pitch, their desire to see every batter get to a full count, etc. Even the UH coaches had to go out there and raise some hell in Game 3. I hope we don't see any members of that crew any more.

You can also get called for an illigal pitch if you stray outside of the 24" zone which is parallel lines running from both sides of the rubber directly towards home plate. If both of your feet are planted outside of the width of the rubber then it is an illegal pitch. That is what Mohwatt got called on. _
Ahh, Taryne Mowatt. I will very seldom watch softball at any random time, unless it involves the Cajuns, or some sort of big game. My attention was certainly drawn to the last couple games of last year's WCWS because they were big games. but, it's safe to say that my attention was held there because of Taryne Mowatt. She is definitely easy on the eyes.

I happened to watch a good bit of the seris this weekend involving Georgia. If you watched her closely, you noticed that she threw her right foot (drag foot) off to the left side "AS" she was releasing the ball... NOT "AFTER" she released the ball. If they wanted to, they could have called an illegal pitch every time she threw it. Its amazing how inconsistency this crap is!

Ashley is busted. This was THE pitch that they called her on at UH.
