    UL Softball Illegal PITCH??

Ok, first of all I didnt see the game and I struggled with the live stats. Can someone please explain to me what exactly an illeagal pitch is? Is that similar to a balk in baseball? I've never heard of this call before. I find it strange that there were... what two called on the last out of the game? How many outs did we have to record in the bottom 7th? Sounds fishy to me.

Anyways I'm thirlled to have the girls advance to the super regional and its sweeter bc it was against LSU in thier yard. Good job ladies and good luck in Houston!

When the 1st one was called, I thought that the batter might have called time and stepped out. But it was called a ball not a no-pitch. I agree, there was something fishy going on.

Either way, LSU geauxs down AGAIN! See the Cougars in Houston next weekend.

Basically, the foot must stay in contact with the rubber until the ball has left the hand. There are many variations on what the umpire can call an illegal pitch and I'm not sure which one was being called on Ashley. for further info, check this out...

your push-off foot must remain in contact with the pitching rubber in the circle until after the ball is released. if you lift your foot up off the rubber before you release the pitch, it's considered an illegal pitch. the worst part of it is, if it's called, any movement of the base runners remains. ex. runners on 1st & 2nd, batter hits the pitch to the infielder who throws the batter out at first, and runners move up to 2nd & 3rd. umpire calls illegal pitch. batter returns to the batter's box. instead of an out, it's a called ball, and runners get to stay at 2nd & 3rd. they do not return to their original bases. it didn't hurt us today in that situation, but it could have turned out to be a killer. they called the same thing on ash yesterday. mostly from the umpire tidwell who was working the infield yesterday.

It would be interesting to know exactly what the illegality was, and to find out what conference Tidwell umpires in.

She is a SEC Official and called the same garbage against Arkansas in April.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas softball team fell to No. 15 LSU 4-0 and 8-6 in an eight-inning battle that came down to the wire. The Lady Razorbacks are now 33-24 overall and 6-18 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Tigers move to 37-14 and 14-10 in league play.
Game two moved into extra innings in the bottom of the seventh. Arkansas entered the half inning up 5-4. Rachel Mitchell walked and moved to third on a single through the right side by Killian Roessner. On the first pitch to Erika Sluss, third-base umpire Jana Tidwell called an illegal pitch which advanced both runners and allowed Mitchell to cross the plate and tie the game at five apiece.

Some of you are being WAY too technical on this "illegal pitch" thing. An illegal pitch is simply a pitch thrown by an opposing pitcher that, if not for the illegal pitch call by a homey umpire trying his best to help his purple team survive, would end in a loss for the purple team.

    Questions?

Yeah, I posted that on the game thread. I've heard she was also involved in an illegal pitch RBI in a game LSU played against Tennessee.

I'm sorry, call me a homer, but when you get to the NCAA regionals, you shouldn't have umpires there that have called your regular-season games.

On this website, http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/m...ch?forum=10114, in a thread tabbed "Baton Rouge Regional", a poster had stated even before the regional started that we needed to make sure all of our pitches were "ultra-legal". He said that Arkansas and Tennessee were victims when playing against LSU. Scroll down to "ProudUncle".
