Thread: LSU wants another shot at Brignac

  1. UL Softball LSU wants another shot at Brignac

BATON ROUGE - Ashley Brignac's pitched on several continents and won state and international championships, so she knows nothing comes as easy as it looks sometimes in the game of softball.

But, if UL's freshman phenom had forgotten that fact, LSU certainly delivered a reminder on Saturday.

"It's something we can build on," said LSU right fielder Quinlan Duhon, who hit one of two home runs off Brignac in the Cajuns' 9-4 win. "We touched her up at the end, just not soon enough."

And that will be one of the interesting storylines as the teams meet again today for a trip to the Super Regional round. Brignac dominated early as UL built a 9-0 lead after three innings, but she struggled late as LSU rallied.

"I don't know if we adjusted or she started to tire", lsu coach Yevette Giouard said, "but we started to have success late, we'll see".

It's not so much that you adjusted but more of the umpire adjusting. Shrinking the plate when Ashley was in the circle to make the NCAA selection commitee look good matching UL against lsu in the regionals in Baton Rouge. Even Giouard said as much when she said that the umpire was giving Ashley the outside connors untill late in the game. When Ashley had to come over the plate to get a strike that is when lsu started to get the bat on the ball. They only had one hit until then.

The next game will tell the story if this is so. Let's hope that the one behind the plate see's fit to let the best team win.

there is no need to already be setting up the excuses--the cajuns are going to win.
