Thread: Cajuns add QB, lose DL to Tulane

  1. Default Cajuns add QB, lose DL to Tulane

One day before this morning’s opening of the NCAA’s national signing period, the UL Ragin’ Cajuns had a couple of surprises.

One was pleasant. The other, not so much.

UL on Tuesday picked up a pledge from Dalvin Populist, a quarterback from Northshore High in Slidell.

  2. UL Football Re: Cajuns add QB, lose DL to Tulane

Hawaii wanted Populist to play defensive back according to Scout.com Mike Coppage. Coppage has a broader scope than the CRZ and covers a lot of TooLame and SLU prospects. I do not at this time know where the Cajuns want him to play, or probably as a freshman practice.

Don't know how to feel about this young man as a player, as he is unranked at this time and zero stars. He claims he has explosive speed, his words not mine, and his season stats were something like 1300 in the air, and 700 on the ground.

If as the Scout article says, and I have no reason to doubt doubt Mr. Coppage, he had real offers from Hawaii and SLU that ain't all bad. Hawaii(MWC) has been the home of plenty of good football players over the years, and SLU has made great strides under their new coach.

I say Populist will be a popular addition to the history and lore of UL football when he leaves here, welcome to your new and best home Mr. Populist.

I'm still a little stumped on this Leglue kid. From everything we heard, he only wanted to come here and when we finally offered, he jumped at the chance to commit. I never figured his commitment, of all the ones we have, was the one that was in question.

You cant argue with a kid putting considerations for Med School first.

Tulane crowing about that pickup also about signing 24 even none looked exceptional on paper

We are so far beneath them, you think they would be embarrassed to have a recruit go there that even considered us.

They finally won a battle on a kid we wanted and needed. I think playing for TooLame will ready him for his pre med studies and even medical school. Lot, and lots of hours (studying = practicing) all alone. He will know how to deal with loneliness in studies from being all alone in a brand new stadium.

So should we be crowing about stealing Kidd a nationally ranked player over TTU. No we been there. TooLamers are still feeling giddy about a winning season that will probably be snuffed out in their first year in AAC.

I thought Leglue wanted to be a lawyer? Radio was cutting out today while they were talking about him. Either way, can't fault a kid for putting his education first.

Populist looks like a kid who can play both sides of the ball and will fit into Hud's system at any position.

For those that don't know Mike Coppage, he focuses on the kids. He doesn't push any school before another. It may look that way, but that's only because the local kids are being recruited hard by Tulane and SLU. The reason we aren't recruiting local kids is because we were looking for size and this area lacks size this year. This area has tons of athletes, but most are under 6 foot and none of the DL/LB's have the speed of the kids we recruited.

Populist, IMO, will be a really good Safety at the college level in a year or two...
