Thread: Louisiana rivals in finals

  1. UL Softball Louisiana rivals in finals

TROY, Ala. - An unlikely matchup between Louisiana rivals for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title was finalized on Friday.

Following a 3-1 win over No. 8 seed Western Kentucky, top-seeded UL faces No. 7 seed UL Monroe at 3 p.m. today for the conference title in a game that will air live on CSS and CST. The winner earns the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

The Warhawks, making their first SBC Tournament appearance, eliminated No. 6 seed North Texas with a 5-1 win on Friday.

Is this another case of a media type making something up? Why is this anymore of a "rivalry" than the Cajuns playing FAU or Troy, etc? So long as the Cajuns win I am happy without having to sack their villages and kidnap their women and children (now that defines a rivalry).

It's a rivalry because both coaches call it that.

Kind of hard to argue with that.

    Coachspeak.

In any event I didn't see a quote from either coach in those lines I commented on.

I think they sent oneo fo the Reports brothers. The DA only sends its best for an important event like a conference championship.

    Yes, I'm in Troy.

Just because I didn't use a quote doesn't mean the coaches did not say it.

The definition of rival according to Webster:
1 a: one of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can possess; b: one striving for competitive advantage.

Sounds like a rivalry to me.

BTW, UL leads 8-0 in fourth inning.

I was just answering your question. No ill-will for anyone here on my part.

The Cajuns lead 10-0 in the fourth.

Yeah, I watched the game but it didn't look, sound and feel like UL beat a "rival" to me. I've seen many Cajun games over the years so I can say that with a great amount of authority.

By the way, playing Middle Tennessee in the 2008 football season finale is fine by me. Talk that rivalry up when the time comes.

I don't think the course a game takes dictates a rivalry.

As long as someone let ULM in the Sun Belt it is what it is.
