To say he would sit the bench is an uneducated statement. I'm not stating my opinion, it's a fact. Not only did Elfrid make the team for the top talented under 19 players in the U.S., but was good enough to be considered one of the best 5. If you kept up with college basketball in general, you would know the guys he played with are the cream of the crop.

---------Well I think that there is an obvious answer to this discussion if you think about it in this way---EP gets the summer gigs and explodes with his driving, dribbling, passing, and running the offense ---he excels very much due to his support cast and his talents being used to exactly what that team needed----the UL b-ball team is a totally different situation where he is needed to be more of a scorer and this he is not in the sense of his shooting---more and more teams will back off of him and dare the 3 point shot ----he won't be able to drive to the goal and this will be a problem----Just putting my defense in against the Cajuns!!!! I think that Shepherd has a chance to be as good as EP down the line as he is faster, quicker, and his % is/was literally the best in the country---I have mentioned the high speed reverse spin on his shot and hopefully he can get the deal together-----God just get a shot and we are going to have a great pro!!! Oh and I might add that some of his driving, dribbling, passing, and running the offense along with great defense has been some of the most exciting ever seen by a Cajun player!!!!

Maybe thats because 90% of this board watches the majority of his games and sees similar trends. Is it out of the realm of possibility that he overachieved this summer? Or maybe peaked? Or maybe had a brilliant few months, gave coaches around the league some film on his game (though improved), and now he's being forced to overcome his weaknesses; hence giving the illusion of an underwhelming 'looking' all around game?

To a certain extent, we created this monster. We all bought in, we all hyped, we all got jacked after witnessing his improvements. Maybe we just got so high on the EP Kool Aide that it was impossible for him to live up to our own expectations..

But I don't think thats the case. I see a player with a lot of work ahead of him, still. Not saying he hasn't come a long way already.. Only time will tell.

I have not gone through this entire thread but I did see you mention that most of the people on this forum do not feel EP is a star. I think that is inaccurate. I think most people believe he has come a long way and is a solid player who will go down as one of the better players we've had over the years. Where he falls short is that its quite simple. Some stars can carry a team on their shoulders and will them to victories. Other stars continuously put up great numbers but fall short in quality victories and crunchtime delivery. I'm not saying EP doesn't deliver but his game is not well rounded enough yet to really carry a team when its needed. His game is getting to the hoop and creating. The last few opponents we've played have figured out ways to slow him down and he hasn't been able to adjust and hit the mid range shot, kick out to guys who can actually knock it down or make the key free throws when he get fouled which is a lot.

As much as I like Payton, IMO his game has holes that he needs to work on filling to truly lead a team to wins. When he plays on the Junior National team, he is playing with guys as good or better than him with an arsenal of weapons both down low and on the perimeter. Playing with Marcus Smart and some of the best big men in the country will allow you to look good as it is always easier to lift your game when playing with other good players.

I'm just totally shocked that we all don't see it the same way... because everyone on this forum usually agrees on everything. Shocking I tell you.

I've been down this road Elfrid is on. I was once heralded as the next Thong God. I wasn't the one that created those expectations. It was those damn Glamour Shots people! All that makeup and dreamy haze crap! Oh, but I loved strutting in front of my fans. I had my rock star moments. I also had some dark times. Jealous husbands... and even worse... the nuns. Paparazzi taking unflattering shots of me. Every guy has shrinkage when it's chilly outside!

I was set up for the criticism. Sex toys made in my likeness. Post menopausal women starting their periods again. Then came the downfall. The Internet and Photoshopping. You could get the likeness of me without coming to monster truck shows and hot dog eating contests. Fans stopped sending letters. Poster sales of me plummeted. Now, I'm just Ragin Cajun eye candy. And some argue I should probably give that up.

Wrong, I do not dislike Marlin. I dislike losing. If Marlin were winning I would be in his corner, but he is not. The last decade of basketball has been worse than the death penalty, he is part of this era and needs to go. It is as simple as that.

D. Mitchel, O. Green, A. Johnson, Laurie Bridges all had a complete team so they did not have to carry the entire team so their stats are lower than they would have been had they played on a two man show like Long and Peyton.
