Thread: Charity Stripe Issues

  1. UL Basketball Charity Stripe Issues

When it comes to issues at the free-throw line, UL’s can be underlined.

    Three times.

    Or more.

The Ragin’ Cajuns’ top three scorers – sophomore big man Shawn Long, junior point guard Elfrid Payton and senior shooting guard Bryant Mbamalu – all are shooting under 65 percent at the foul line this season.

This has been the issue all year. We seem to miss critical 1 and 1 every game. I'd rather shoot a half court three than send our guys to the free throw line. You would think that would be one of our priorities in practice since it kills us every game.

--------I had checked with Marlin 2 years ago about my sister in law and a friend that is a muralist and doing a to size fit of the Dome background behind the goal at the practice facility---Didn't know if the job could be done with a photo method----the other thing for EP is the number of rotations on his FTs as it has incredible back spin ---Some have mentioned his hand size and the longer the ball stays in his contact the greater the spin (just a thought on a huge problem)!!!!

Free throws are a priority in practice. Doing better there is more of mental thing than physical. You have to be able to focus on the task despite the pressure. It is impossible to simulate the pressure of making them when it counts in a practice situation.

If it is the Dome then why do other teams shoot over 70% from the FT line in the Dome?

I agree with you, but you would have to look at where they practice. I think our practice facility is huge disadvantage to us, we would be better off practicing in EKL. I think it is more mental than anything at this point. I also think Elfrid's legs are showing the wear of playing competitively all summer.

--Point counter point---See Mel Rock's post but BB it is like jay Walker said years back-----Good FT shooters are GOOD SHOOTERS----EP has not been a very good shooter but take Shepherd as his % game for both 3s and FTs are extremely good!!!!

Yes I have and the back wall is not as close as the IPF.

Not that big a difference either, tired of the excuses. How about we suck at free throws instead of blaming it on the wall. Wku practiced in our facility before the game and them went shoot 90% from the stripe.

Agree, I think our FT's have less to do with the facility and more to do with the fact that we don't have good shooters.

Practicing one time with the wall in your face is not going to ruin your free throws and is far different than practicing every day at E.A. Diddle Arena.
