Thread: Sun Belt is adept under-center

  1. UL Football Sun Belt is adept under-center

Going into his senior season, Michael Desormeaux remains firmly entrenched as UL's starting quarterback.

Such stability under center will be common in the Sun Belt Conference going into next season. Of the conference's eight teams, only Troy lost its starter in Omar Haugabook, the Sun Belt's Offensive Player of the Year.

Coaches across the Sun Belt agree having a veteran quarterback plays a huge role in team success.

"There is no doubt a returning quarterback makes a difference," UL Monroe coach Charlie Weatherbie said during Thursday's post-spring teleconference call. "He's your point guard, so to speak, and makes the decisions on where the ball goes in the run game and pass game.

"It's key to have someone who has some experience and has been in the fire."

""We've got to get people to back off us a little bit and help out our running game," Bustle said. "I thought last year we were throwing it so short (the opposing defensive players) were playing the routes and the running game.

"We want to have a complete package.""

    WTF

    WHAT _
My take on this is that he's saying we in no way opened up the defenses. They jammed us on the run and short route passes, because they felt we were no threat deep. Bustle is right about the complete package, but I'd like to see how that gets accomplished. He may be trying to beg them into backing off the run... to which no one will ablige unless they're stupid. If I were an opposing defense, I would jam the snot out of us and make us throw the ball downfield.

"I thought last year we were throwing it so short..." is an odd statement by Bustle... I have to agree.

Oh, great. Now you just gave away top secret information! I can't believe you, man! Now what are we gonna do? You're dead to me, Fredo!

I really thought long and hard before I unveiled the double reverse inverted upside down psychology being used... and then decided to add my own slight of hand smoke and mirrors delusional fantasy spinning illusion to Bustle's ploy. The net result is that we will run Fenroy off tackle for a lot of yards, MD will roll right, tuck the ball and scamper for a lot of yards, and some other things will happen on offense... but if our defense doesn't hold down the opponent scoring and special teams doesn't give us some decent field position... having a senior QB isn't necessarily going to reverse Bustle's fortune.

But, in eternal optimism... I give you a... Geaux Cajuns!!!

Eternal optimisim is a good thing. New year, new players, new OC, new field, new weight room equipment, more money..all good positive things. All is good on the football front!! Project a positive attitude, it will work magic with the athletes.
