As softball pitchers for the University of Louisiana, Stefni (Whitton) Lotief and Kyla (Hall) Holas racked up enough wins, shattered enough records and left behind a legacy worthy of retiring their jersey numbers.
Now both are in their eighth year as collegiate head coaches for nationally ranked powers. Last weekend, the Cajuns (39-10) won the regular-season Sun Belt title for the seventh time in eight years, and the Cougars (44-7) secured a second straight Conference USA crown.
The former Cajun legends face off today as 16th-ranked UL travels to ninth-ranked Houston for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
"I'm really excited to be able to coach against her," Lotief said of Holas. "I've known her since she was about 14. My dad was her pitching coach (in summer ball). I was a volunteer coach at UL her first year in college.
"She's a good competitor."
