Always willing to speak his mind, UL softball coach Michael Lotief was honest when asked what he knew about freshman pitcher Ashlyn Williams from Sun Belt rival Troy.
"I saw her play in high school, but all I've seen of her since then is on film," said Lotief, whose Cajuns (37-10, 15-2 SBC) open a three-game set this weekend against the Trojans (30-18, 12-6) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader today in Troy, Ala. "I'll tell you more about her after I see her this weekend."
For now, her numbers tell a compelling story. Williams, who is 25-11 with a 1.48 ERA this season, has dominated the opposition in her first year of college ball. The left-hander has mixed her rise-ball and change-up to perfection, striking 237 batters in 245.2 innings pitched for the third-place Trojans.
