Thread: I don't think anyone will beat Seattle.

Just playing devil's advocate because I now dislike Sherman more than ever, but with what happened in the NHL game in Calgary last week, there is a clear double standard as to who are considered thugs and who aren't.

Hockey condones and accepts fighting. They promote their game indirectly using brawls and violence.

Definition of double standard. If the argument was made for a fight to take up for a star player, I could buy it, but these players and coaches basically staged a brawl which has nothing to do with the game of hockey. I've heard people comparing Sherman to a villain in the WWF. This hockey brawl was the royal rumble...

Did players get ejected or suspended? In any other sport, the consequences would have been profound. Hockey tolerates it and invites it.

I think there were 6 ejections and expected suspensions/fines to come.

Actually, 8 players were ejected and suspensions are being considered.

That's interesting. Well, for as long as I can remember, fighting was a hot ticket item for hockey. So calling these guys thugs may be appropriate for that specific incident, but the sport as a whole lately excepted their behavior to promote the brand. That can't be argued. So for those reasons, I don't believe the comparison is justified.

When I went to the icegators game Saturday, the referees were not allowing them to throw down.... MAT, I'm with you on this one. I thought fighting is what helped sell hockey.

So we are condoning fighting in hockey because it sells the sport, yet condemning a player with a masters degree from stanford, and arguably the best corner in the league for talking trash? Interesting.....

That is as unsportsmanlike or worse than what Sherman did. But...since it's coming from a dreadlocked corner back from Compton, it's a problem, but if it's from an awe shucks quaterback from New Orleans...it's ok. I'm not trying to come out and call people racist, but this xenophobic approach really hamstrings people. Sauce for the goose. If Peyton can be as selfish as humanly possible by staying in a game and risk injury just to get an injury when it meant nothing to the team but risking to ruin their season...it should be perfectly fine for a guy who just sent his team to the Super Bowl to celebrate and earned the right to trash talk to a guy who trash talked him all week long. Sauce...for the goose
Do you think it was the smart move for him to cast himself (and by extension the team) as the villain in the super bowl? Against golden boy Peyton Manning? Do you not think the refs will receive clarification on the pass interference and defensive holding rules from the league, prior to the game....especially now?

From a purely strategic standpoint it was a stupid thing to do. Regardless of how assholish it was...and it was very assholish.

Book it: He will definitely have another meltdown once the Super Bowl media has a field day on his azz.
