I think its a little too soon to be giving a contract extension. I think it would be warranted next year after a good year.

Only coach at UL that had a 1000 APR last year. His players are getting it done in the classroom.

I think that is great. Its nice not to have to consult a crystal ball every fall to guess who is on the team or not. But seriously, college coaches are paid to win games.

At this point, ANY news would be a surprise.

What constitutes winning big is subjective. I will bet you a hamburger we win more than we lose next season.

  8. UL Basketball Robert Lee Offered 2-Year Extension

With two months left on his current contract, Robert Lee received the boost of confidence he was hoping for, a reward for helping rebuild the UL men's basketball program both in the classroom and on the court.

According to the agenda for Friday's meeting of the UL system board of supervisors, UL has requested approval to extend Lee's contract two years through June 30, 2010.

UL director of athletics David Walker made a recommendation to university president Ray Authement for the contract extension. Dr. Authement then recommended the extension be approved by the board of supervisors.

The move was first reported Tuesday afternoon at theadvertiser.com.

"He's building a tremendous program," Walker said of Lee, who is 40-55 in four years as the Cajun head coach after eight years as an assistant. "We wanted to reward him with a contract extension."

Surprised it was done or that it was reported?

I may have mis-read the article; but I think his original deal was done. So if you didn't give him at least a 1 yr extension, we'd be looking for a new BB coach this summer. I've got no problem with a 2-yr deal at this point. Not like it gives him 4-6 more years (aka RB's extension a couple years ago).
Please correct me if I'm wrong about the original deal being done.

I think he deserves the two years because he's trying to build the program right, rather than just inject a quick fix to help propel him to another job.
