Actually what happened almost every year is we start out without a full team, and we ended with a pretty good one. Those early loses due to missing starts sealed our fate win the conference or wilt waiting for an at large.

True but it was the price we had to pay to get top level talent in a Cajun uniform. When you take chances on players with poor academic records you can't be surprised when they don't always make the grade.
That was the main reason why so many fans had soured on Evans. But he had to take who he had to take. If Southall could have been relied on to make the grade every semester he would have been in a Duke or Kansas uniform. But he struggled so we had to take a chance on him when the major programs wouldn't. And it paid off for us in a big way. Evans deserved way more credit than he ever got from the fans.
Actually, he was a Kentucky recruit, when they found out what he smoked, they told him to take a hike.
Credit. Many of us would have been pleased to give him the benefit of the doubt, but when he wouldn't prevent his son from selling the stuff he was smoking, it was time for him to go.
You do not have to sell me the merits of Jesse Evans. Not only did he WIN, he even beat the NCAA. Not many people can say that, they caught Mr. Clean Ricky Bustle with a minor infraction of t shirts in the Easter Bunny investigation but Jesse sent them a packing and the Easter Bunny was king in his girlfriend's caddy.
Well one thing is clear, Evans did not have APR issues at USF, maybe that is why he got fired for failure to win, but at UL-L we only need the NCAA minimum met.
Evans was fired because he failed to show up for his job after he wanted to take a sebatical in the middle of the season. The president and AD both requested that he actually coach during basketball season but apparently he was going through some family issues at the time. After they gave him a week or two off to take care of his issues, he requested more time with full pay and they disagreed. He then sued the school and it was all history after that. I may be missing a timeline or small detail here or there but that's basically how it went down from what I read
Just ask Hud to coach the team.
