Thread: When is Marlin going to start winning the big game!?

Default When is Marlin going to start winning the big game!?

Loss at Moanroe was tough, but loss last night at South Alabama is disheartening! I know they're not as bad as their record indicated, but last rpi had us 94 and them 264! This is year 4 for him. He's got to start winning those, if he wants to put people in the stands and get us to the big dance!!!

Very inconsistent. Turnovers were a big reason we lost that game last night. As is the case, though, with most teams we play much better at home than on the road

I agree with the meat of your post...The headline should read when are we going to consistently win the games that we are supposed to win.....I would say that the wins against Tech and Houston were big game wins....

Right. I don't think USA was necessarily a big game, but a game we needed if we wanted to be considered in the converastion for the regular season league title.

USA was picked to finish second in the league by the coaches and have struggled with chemistry. They played better, we played poorly, pluse we didn't get a great performance from the bench.

Things we want are still in front of us, 20 win season, conference championship, and NCAA berth. But, our margin for error is getting much smaller. IMO, if we want to win the league title, Saturday night is almost a must win.

Either way, the only way we dance is if we win the tourny. The good news is the Sun Belt tourney is in NOLA this year and still pretty wide open. We should have home-court advantage. Hopefully we can get some nice crowds.

The team will win a "big" game (I think road game is the more appropriate term as we have won big home games) when the guys are mentally strong enough to shoot over 70% from the line and physically strong enough to not have 12 shots blocked. 12 blocked shots is a huge number and results in high % shots from the opposition.

And FT shooting. USA had way more TOs than we did. A new coach, some new players, a losing record, and we lose to these guys. They start 3 guards that are under 6'2" (2 are 6'), a 6'7" center and 6'5" F and still out rebounded us. A lot of fundamentals seem to be missing.

Look, it is time for us to become a group of realist, Marlin will not win consistently here and will be mediocre at best. Marlin is good at player development, but has not been successful at bringing in top tier Sun Belt talent. I don't want to hear about Long and Peyton, because Elfrid was a crap shoot and Long transferred in.

We need a guy here similar to Hudspeth who can create a level of excitement around basketball. I am sorry but 4 years of mediocre basketball with a limited run of success in an obviously weaker league than what Fletcher or Evans coached in.

I for one am extremely frustrated with what has transpired in basketball over the last decade here. This administration has ____ on the program and fans for a decade. It is not about conference affiliation, but rather a lack of a true demand for excellence from our athletic department across the board.

Marlin will likely be given another year, but I do not think he deserves one.

I completely respect your opinion. I hope we get it turned around the remainder of the season. I still believe Marlin is the guy to get it done.

This is basketball not football, you do not need 5 or 6 years to turn it around. You need three solid players, he has two in 4 years. He ran off some problem kids that Marlin himself recruited. Only one of them could really help us right now. We have been through two complete roster rebuilds since he has been hired. Mainly due to his recruits or his staff hires, both fall on the HC if you are going to assign any responsibility for it.

He had a great run his first year winning something like 11 straight, but since then it was like we are just spinning our wheels. Attendance is falling, in fact it is at a dismal average and we have two really solid players. That speaks volumes for this program.
