This is basketball not football, you do not need 5 or 6 years to turn it around. You need three solid players, he has two in 4 years. He ran off some problem kids that Marlin himself recruited. Only one of them could really help us right now. We have been through two complete roster rebuilds since he has been hired. Mainly due to his recruits or his staff hires, both fall on the HC if you are going to assign any responsibility for it.
He had a great run his first year winning something like 11 straight, but since then it was like we are just spinning our wheels. Attendance is falling, in fact it is at a dismal average and we have two really solid players. That speaks volumes for this program.
This years UL basketball team is very inconsistent, moments of greatness and then turn around and look like talentless team. A rollercoaster season for sure. I'm not sure it can be straightened out this year, but we can hope.
Exactly! Not enough talent, at least Jessie's teams could go toe to toe with Tennessee, Miss St, and Louisville. Hell Orien Green, Tirus Wade, Michael Southall, Anthony Johnson, Tyren Johnson, Dwayne Mitchel and Brian Hamilton are all still playing professional basketball somewhere.
Name me a player on our roster who would beat anyone of those players out of a starting position besides Peyton. I am not sure Long would start over Hamilton and I know he isn't better than Big Mike.
I am not even throwing in guys like Brad Boyd, Laurie Bridges, Orlando Bulter, Blaine Harmon, Chris Cameron, Antoine Landry, Kenneth Lawrence, Tyrone Foster hell even Emanuel Washington are better than the majority of our roster.
The talent gap from the 90s to now is staggering. Those teams would have crushed these 2000s teams. Not only did we have great individual players, they played well together. Watching the new intro gives me mixed feelings. It makes me miss the old days, the flashy dunks, fast breaks, show time passes and atmosphere in the dome. GREAT times, hot tickets, awesome basketball. I would do anything to have that again.
And yes, I'm endorsing cheating![]()
I think you can argue Long would start over Big Mike, because Big Mike did not play hard. On physical talent alone, Mike was head and shoulders better. But, he didn't always play hard. Mike's peak was when he averaged 8 rebounds per game. Also,Shawn is much more skilled than Mike.
Agreed, Paul Johnson asked me repeatedly to come out and play for them when I was running track. I knew I would never see significant floor time but still thought about it. I played with those guys all the time, competed ok against them, but they were on a different level.
Shoot I am 33 now, played a pick up game against a kid who supposedly was invited to walk on but didn't make the team and walked his behind all over the floor and I have only played basketball maybe 5 times a year for the past 5 or 6 years.
Mediocre coaching with great talent will dominate all but maybe 40 programs in the country year in and year out.
Frack!!!!!!!! We need Cajuns to start playing sum ball ______!!!!!! WTF is going on down there???????!?
Well, Hud did just as good in year one... with 96% Bustle starters... than he's done the entire time he's been here. I say Marlin just needs to get Hud to "have a talk" with the basketball players. Let Hud be his "heavy". You walk around the court and tell them that you are the "other guy" as you slam into them and slam the ball out of their hands... then you tell them, "that other guy wants your ball... are you going to let him take your ball away from you!?... and a few other things that can't be discussed or filmed... for the mothers.
Our basketball players have the talent to beat everyone in the SBC and beyond. They just need a fire lit under their ___.
