Thread: Fielding the NEW Swamp

  1. Default Re: Real Time Swamp Floor Happenings

I think SMU has a brick wall in their stadium......I seem to remember that it looked nice on a TV broadcast. I am not sure though....I will check as I am curious now.

Yes they do......I think this would really look nice at Cajun Field.......

It would be no problem at all. They have the foundation to start with. At each step entrance from the stands to the field make columns on each side of the opening. Also columns coming throuth the tunnel.....The company that donates the bricks can have thier co. enlayed into the brick as advertisement. Might as well think big.

I have a Question Re: Real Time Swamp Floor Happenings

Is it me, or does the Ragin' Cajuns on the 50 look a little off center? Kind of like the Ragin' could be slightly to the left. Besides that it looks great and a brick wall would look even better.

No it's not off-center, it looks that way because of how the words are positioned, if you look closely the tips of each side of the logo both touch at the 37 1/2 yard line. It is a very large logo though, and it's hard to tell in the dark

It is centered. On the right side what you can't see is part of the logo which is red and black. They decided to do it this way so the whole logo would be centered. Not only the letters.

They could a lot of subtle differences to make cajun field look so much nicer. For instance, take those nasty looking shades down from the press box area and maybe get some mirror tint instead.

I suppose the rules of sign making are ever changing but when I was a kid I can remember my mom pointing out a logo here and there that was off center. She would say "you don't center just by measuring, you center mainly by considering optical illusion."

She attended the Kansas City Art Institute on scholarship and painted signs for money so I respect her thoughts. . . now more than ever even though the industy is somewhat fluid.

To me it looks like Ragin' is fairly center but the wispy nature of the accent pepper should allow for a slight shift to the right for optical purposes (unless you are on the student side then the left)

What looks off to me is CAJUNS which is bigger than RAGIN' and there is obviously a measured alignment to the right side of the logo which throws the whole thing off center to left.

Not as bad as the KC Chiefs “Anyone got a Snickers bar?” commercial when he wrote 'CHEFS'. In truth it doesn’t bother me much, perhaps we can get the turf for free.

Great Googly Moogly, our field is on fire. Oh wait, nevermind, that's just our hideous logo. That big pepper makes me wish I was at a Mexican restaurant.

Not that I know anything about aligning logo's, but also remember that the "illusion" that is created is a bit skewed because you're not looking at it from the center (i.e. the cam is on the 45/46 yd line, not the 50) and the cam looks like it's tilted a bit to the right.

    You listen to planet radio?

p.s. this is the ONLY time the pepper should be used, as an apostrophe

What's hideous is losing to McNeese etc. Here's hoping Dez, Fenroy & Co really scorch that new Cajun turf in some big wins in '08.

Speaking of the pepper, they need to replace that awning that covers the tunnel with something more simple. I HATE that big pepper on it.

A big fleur de lis like the ones on the field would look very classy.
