Thread: Fielding the NEW Swamp

  1. Default Re: Real Time Swamp Floor Happenings

    Turbine,

The inserts are not glued to the padding they are glued to the backing which is on top of the padding, the green fibers are shaved down to the backing and the new fibers which already has backing on it is glued down. The product is much like the carpet in a home. So if the turf ever needs to be restreched every thing will move as one piece.

It raises a few questions: So the numbers are glued to the foam underlayment but the entire field is not? I ask because of the temporary wrinkles.

Also it looks like they finished/connected the Red and White corner framing, was a square cut out and inset? _
I don't think the numbers are glued to the underlayment. I believe they just trim the blades of the turf down by whatever thickness the numbers are and then glue the numbers to the shortened turf. That way the resulting height of the numbers is even with the height of the overall playing surface.

Hey guys, does our new field have the little rubber pellet on it?

Thanks, that was one of my theories when I looked at it up close last night.

However when I saw the fuzzy white in the pic I wrongly threw that possibility out the window.

    . . . so the templates are "where to shave" templates . . . ?

The overspray that you see is not paint, it is the clippings from the white turf from the numbers after they put them down. Nothing on the field will be painted. Everything on the field is turf that has been colored by the turf manufacture. If you look at the picture of the installation you can see that the they shave the turf where the numbers go then glue down the colored turf in that spot. The same thing will be done in the endzone and middle of the field with the Logos In reference to the I Love Bri. This had to be done at night when the workers were present so I assume that it is probally one of the workers that laid down scrap pieces of turf as a message to his girlfriend. I seriously doubt that someone got down on the field and painted this while the workers were present. And since they work from 7pm to 7am im sure they were there. _
If it is like our turf project, even the hash marks, and the dashed lines designating where people can stand outside the sidelines and coaching boxes are put on the same way. Each little spot was shaved and the colored turf placed.

No, the fibers are shave off the turf itelf and the numbers are glued on top of the shaved turf. It doesn't go down to the underlayment.

I like that red border thats around the endzones and up to the 25 yard line. Will the go along the whole length of the field?

Nope, it goes as far on the south side as you see and again as far on the north side of the field... looks good though doesnt it?

It's different. And in this case different is a good thing. But i guess it would be the most visible where it is now, since the players and coachs and such stand between the 30 yard lines.

It won't extend into the bench areas which are from 25 to 25.

We have blue where you have the red and that the way it is.
