Good Things Coming Soon
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK guys; I had a good visit with an official but unnamed source in the Athletic Department yesterday. Here are a few things you all will want to hear:
1. Our new game day program for football will be 50+ pages of slick finish information ONLY about UL. Most of it is the same from week to week, but there will be 24 NEW pages for every game, some of which will be topical feature type stories. The program will be named 'GEAUX' there is a link to some samples on the front page of RaginCajuns.com.
2. The LEAD topical story for the first home game will be: The RCAF. All the nuts and bolts of it; who is in charge, how to give money, its purpose, the whole enchilada.
3. Advertising is being sold in the program. ALL available full page ads and 1/2 page ads have already been sold.
4. The stadium washing was supposed to start yesterday; rain prevented it.
5. The retaining wall in the stadium is being redone. End zone to end zone on both sides will sport UL logos, information, etc. The end zones are being sold to 2 sponsors. Each sponsor will have 1/2 of each end zone; diagonally opposite each other. One has already been sold; the other may have closed last night. $7500/yr with a 3 year committment for each sponsor.
6. A decorative windscreen is being put up along the exterior fences of the practice area on Cajundome Blvd and Rheinhart Dr. It will be done in UL logos with limited advertising spots [Maybe 3 or 4 total]. Those spots will fetch $15,000/yr EACH with a 3 year committment.
7. This past spring there was a for credit course in marketing which was divided into two sections, one marketing baseball, the other softball. This was VERY well accepted by both the professor and the coaches involved, and was hugely popular with the students who participated. Look for more of this, both in marketing and other applicable departments.
8. Next January will be the kickoff of the Cajun Annual Fund; sort of a Ragin' Cajun Club on steroids. It will be a membership organization with member levels from $100/yr up to $10,000+/yr. Its purpose will be to fund day to day non-capital type operations for athletics. [Capital and Endowed projects will be handled by the RCAF.]
I stressed with my source that we should have been told all this MONTHS ago, and he agreed, but said that it was not his choice to make.
All this can be discussed publicly, but with the caveat that it comes from an unnamed but official source.
