I think the endzones will look good just wait until the lettering is in place, if you want to complain about black things in the stadium take a look at the black wall around the field and the black wall of the student side. That is far less in tune with our school color system than the endzones will be, plus, once the red fleur-de-lis are placed on the field it will add enough vermilion to look pretty snazzy.
I say bring back the neutral gray on the student side with the red stripe across the top with Ragin Cajuns in cursive... classic. I can live with the black endzones i guess, but not everything else black... its almost as bad as that yellow color that is on everything.

You will have to live with the black...I like It. Here are a view slide show shot's...Might go tonight on the field and see them install the numbers.
I agree with you. I'm not a big fan of black being so dominant on everything we do, but when done in moderation, it can be ok. I also think that once the lettering is laid down, it will make for a very nice contrast and it will look great. It looks like a lot of black right now, but once the red and white letters are in place, it will look totally different.
I don't know if I recall the neutral grey that you're talking about for the student side. I know one thing's for sure, those black walls need to go. I noticed the other day when I went by there that one of the images for the retired numbers that they put up there is already falling down. In fact, half of it is missing. They need to go back to something much more neutral, and if not, nothing more than red. We all need to start some sort of petition or fill the inboxes of the AD and the Associate AD, and let them know that they need to quit doing embarassing things like this. They need to brick the inner wall in the offseason (with a nice brick, not some crappy stuff), and then follow that with bricking the wall behind the students. I think that this sort of stuff could go a very long way in enhancing the appearance of the stadium and the Athletic Complex as a whole.
Who knows, maybe this sort of stuff will be announced in "The Plan".
Last night on the news they discussed that red was considered (not sure if they meant for the endzones or the playing area) but the fear was that it would fade and look pink (remember all the complaints about the painted handrails fading to a pinkish hue). So if that is the choice I can live with the black background and Louisiana in white.
Don't worry about the ORANGE looking stripes the black ACCENT beads will make it look red.
When they first announced the field, I was not a fan of the black endzones looking at the designs they released. But seeing the endzone in person in the context of the stadium, it looks great and really adds some contrast. I'm anxious now to see how it looks with the lettering, and seeing how the midfield logo turns out.
I sure hope that they straighten the numbers on the yard lines. It looks like someone had one too many when applying them.
