I agree, while there is a low level of ambiguity surrounding ULA, it crosses a name law threshold.

The whole law hinges on the use of "University" and even in an abreviation the leading "U" kicks in the abbreviation rejection portion of the law.

The use of LA however, has no legal restrictions or qualifiers, although I suspect at some point a national media entity will slap a leading "U" in front of LA. ... Which -by the way- would be totally legal.

  2. Default What Dr. Savoie should do

I'm sure there are many suggestions but here is mine.

    Dr. Savoie should put out a press release simply stating;

"We will no longer let the publishers of "La Louisiane" magazine represent, set policy for, or negotiate on behalf of the University of Louisiana in areas involving Ragin' Cajuns Athletics.

  4. Default SBC OKs 'Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns' while UL Suffers Brain Cramps with UL-L

After objections voiced Monday by University of Louisiana officials, the Sun Belt Conference revised its newly released University Reference Guide regarding name references for Ragin’ Cajun athletic teams.

The Sun Belt Conference changed UL’s sports nickname from Ragin’ Cajuns to the school’s preferred Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, it announced Tuesday night.

It's still shows the ignorance and duplicity of all parties. The admin still as the hyphenated three letter designation as the abbreviation. The story confirms that hasn't changed despite several more acceptable, legal alternatives available as suggested by numerous people on this forum. That's pretty sad when the average fan can have more creative ideas than our admin. In addition, the article also shows the conference office's duplicity with a member university and it's fans. They initially claimed this was all on the university. Now it us confirmed that they changed our requested nickname arbitrarily and unilaterally. TJoe stepped on his crank. And a Benson kicked us in the crotch and then tried to tell us TJoe told him to do it.

No, pay attention son. I am in favor of the alternatives suggested here such as ULA, LA.

Odd. The article states that UL didn't have a 2-4 letter abbreviation, so they went with UL-L. How about LA?

What he should do is follow your suggestions, Turb.

First reference: Louisiana Lafayette (If they refuse to just use Louisiana make them say the word rather than initials so it is as prominent as the city tag.)

    Abbreviation for statistical purposes: LA

But our admin is too freaking clueless when it comes to marketing.

For once i agree with jay.
I think its time for these sissies, who are afraid to fight for our name, to leave! We need someone who will stand up and fight! T-Joe and Scott-Farmer are obviously too chicken Sh..it!

I agree. I was hoping this would be addressed. Even on the second go the University is still effing it up. Should be:

    Nickname: Ragin' Cajuns or Cajuns
    First Reference: Louisiana
Shortened reference: this is a matter of opinion, but I could live with LA, ULA, LOU (only if Louisville uses UL, to avoid confusion) or LU. Similar to how the University of Oklahoma is OU.

If you look at the re-released guide you can see how the other schools filled out the nickname, first reference, shortened reference fields.
