After all this, let's rename ourselves after a local high school...that wouldn't set us up for even more ridicule.

Do you also realize that the law requires every school in the UL System to use the city tag following its name? Not just Louisiana and ULM. For ex., Louisiana Tech University at Ruston or McNeese State University at Lake Charles. Yet, no school follows that law. Do you call them out too?

So, why can't another school in Louisiana start using that name?

NO that's not true, most states have multi-tiered university systems and the flagship system is funding much higher than community college funding. They do not receive equal funding per student, quit listening to Cajunfun, he is not an expert in higher ed.

    Could you,

A: quote the law exactly with a source.

B: provide an actual example of breaking such law.

We have a similar tiered structure. Just not at the university system level.

LSU is the flagship university of the state. (which most people here do not dispute).

Tech, UL, and UNO are designated as statewide universitites. (Odd that we cannot market ourselves on a statewide basis)

Every other 4 years public university has a regional designation.

I can totally see that perception developing from both ends.

Truth is though the only thing that can adversely affect the two ends of the spectrum are purse strings. That is something they never have to worry about UL controlling, we can't even give ourselves a nickname.

What the spectrum does want to protect is UL's poor boy status, because for UL's entire history it has been the lowest funded (per student) school in the State.

Still somehow in spite of (back in 1905) when the Governor hit the brakes and said 'There's too much book learning going on at that school' it became the second largest school in the state.

So yeah I see the perception.

Our State is the ONLY state in the UNION without a University of!!!! How backwards are we going to remain LSU? Are you proud to be LEGISLATED the Flagship School? UL never wanted to be the Flagship University ONLY "The University of Louisiana", THE very name Tulane gave up YEARS ago!!!

The Governor of Louisiana has a chance to make this right, but it is going to take a UNIFIED RAGIN CAJUN NATION to put up the MONEY to HIRE a WELL VERSED, HIGH POWER ATTORNEY to have this case retried and the VERDICT OVERTURNED!!!

I will donate the first $1000!!!

I am willing to start having meetings to do ALL the research on the WHOLE history concerning USL or UL, the vote, the trial, and another Universities around the country that have fought these battles!!!

    Who is in?
Cant get a case declared a "mistrial" 29 years later. God you are so stupid that it hurts! BWWWHAA!

To your point, it is far too late to touch that issue. Good lawyers in 1984 would have pounced on that conflict of interest and made it front and center.

Fact is this was an un-loseable case, that was lost.
So turbine are you and I and any others going to meet, to at the very least put together a superbly accurate accounting of the work the efforts prior during the trial and post as well as other universities around the country to document the history of a name change going wrong?!
