Thread: 2014 Branding Fiasco: UL-Lafayette or UL-L (SBC Reference Guide)

Question? If we were to go into another conference would we still be under the arm pits of lswho and Louisian house strong arms about a name change? Would they still have the control about naming rights. We may be in another conference but we are still in Louisiana......any thoughts about this?

So who is telling the Advocate and other newspapers it's okay to call us UL Lafayette and not ULL?

"UL Lafayette has been our official abbreviation since 1999"---------OK T---seems like you just want to pick an argument or want employment at the MA-------T--again I have a choice between paying for a DA or a MA ----AGAIN I chose the DA because they refer to my university by what I want it to be called---the MA doesn't---What in the hell do you not understand about that---Another poster just told you the same thing---I look at all kinds of info everyday but it is the choice in this deal---Again T-just think about it---the choice!!!

"We request that the University not be referred to as "ULL" in any instance. Local media have almost never used ULL. Recently, several major daily papers throughout Louisiana, at our request, have moved away from use of ULL as an abbreviation: New Orleans Advocate, Baton Rouge Advocate, Acadiana Advocate, The News Star (Monroe), The Town Talk (Alexandria) and The Shreveport Times, as well as many other media throughout the state. We greatly appreciate everyone's support."

As long as they do not use ULL, the media have been directed to use UL-Lafayette clearly. So my point to Boomer is to stop ignoring the policy makers that he has known for years at UL and stop blaming the bogeyman in the closet.

BTW, Boomer reads the NO paper which does not use UL or Louisiana either? I don't get it! LOL!!!

With all due respect, it is none of your damn business what we call ourselves, nor is it any business of Tech as a University [nor of any other University not located in Lafayette]. All you other Universities have your own issues and problems which you should be addressing rather than sticking your noses all up in our affairs.

we never wanted ULL...we were UL (University of Louisiana) officially for like 1 year. LSU got the panties in a knot and made us change back to USL then offered us the deal with the city tag and another school had to be willing to change to UL-city as well. so...ULM and ULL.

what is so dumb is that the rest of the state is so worried about what we call ourselves instead of worrying bout their own issues...IMO

At least that's the impression I'm getting from looking at these emails from the C&M department leader. It's "we" did this, "we" requested that, "The University" asked, etc. Who is this "we" ? Does that include El Presidente? Or is the "we" designating his department only? Because, other than El Presidente signing off on these items and giving approval to other schools name preferences, I believe it all went down without his approval or input until it was too late to react. I think C&M got caught playing around between the NO Bowl and the holidays and the assignment, which Joe had handed off to them, was forgotten about until it was too late to change anything (Hence the UL-L requested footnote, the unlawful use of ULL, and their assumption that the SBC would well, just include Louisiana along with Ragin Cajuns when the word Mascot was uttered. Obviously Louisiana Ragin Cajuns was not submitted if it was not recognized as the chosen mascot. Someone had to F that up pretty good for it not to be recognized. I guess "we" is to blame here too.

El Presidente gets request, sends request on to C&M, C&M drops the ball, making mistake after mistake, after oversight and assumptions, SBC says where's your stuff, we're ready for approvals....El Presidente panics, says let me see what you have, we'll have to go with this and learn a lesson, C&M sends in the needed information to SBC, Everything is approved by other university prezidents, Boom, Done Deal.

While I agree there needed to be some sort of name continuity with all of the SBC schools, it screams that the school with the biggest name challenge is the school who made the biggest blunders. In news gathering, this is known as a style book.

I took the first PR 101 class offered years ago at USL. Virginia Cromwell taught the class. She had an expression, that Great Public Relations is simply the truth, well told. Seems we're getting neither....the truth or the information being well told.

El Presidente will live to fight another day. The scam C&M office will rightfully fall on the sword this time.
A little music in the background and you would have the fixins of a fine soap opera...

I LIKE IT. haha. why the hell not huh?!

Listening to BEV--Jay is calling out the university like I've NEVER heard before!! Said this has set us back 15 years!! Not calling out T-Joe and Farmer by NAME, but you know EXACTLY who he's talking about! Wanted someone, ANYONE to come on his show--NO!!! I see pitchforks, torches and clubs in Martin Hall and Reinhardt drive coming soon.....
