I agree.
It's high time and long overdue that our administration goes "balls to the wall" to all outsiders in DEMANDING what our preference of being called is in athletics--Louisiana Ragin Cajuns--which is totally legal in branding our sports teams.
Anything less is not satisfactory.
Now, let's see how fast our "leaders" get the message out in defense of our university.
After all, this is REALLY SIMPLE to do and long overdue!
I, for one, am sick and tired of this school's administration's seemingly terrified, fearful nature on addressing such a simple, fundamental concept.
Get the damn thing done...and do it QUICKLY!
just for the record --I will call us UL or Louisiana--My shirts and Cajun wear will be sans Lafayette and I will keep up the good fight---I will read the DA and not the other Baton Rouge to Acadiana paper as long as our DA refers to us as they now do!!! I think we all should do this but questions MUST be answered!!!
I've said it for a while now!! The biggest problem we have is we continue to tell people what NOT TO call us, but we don't say what TO call us. I'm speaking strictly about the abbreviation regarding our athletic programs.
UL? No. We aren't allowed.
ULL? No. Just gross.
So we say don't call us ULL, but we don't give them an alternative. How about ULA or LA? I don't pretend to have the answer, but sit on your hands and hope ESPN thinks of something cool is definitely not it.
Different subject, same problem (while I'm ranting):
Before we go all nuts complaining that we finally got one, but now our new ESPNU icon thingy is a giant pepper in the shape of a "U", we need to be proactive and have our guys put together something to send to them so we have a say in the matter ahead of time. PROACTIVE.
Ditto. I will not refer to us in any capacity other than Louisiana or UL.
I hate to be the ***hole that has to say this. But I'd almost be better off renaming the school the University of Lafayette. If we're going to be confused with Lafayette College and won't be allowed (or won't allow ourselves) to call ourselves Louisiana anyway, we might as well get the abbreviation we want out of the deal. I just can't deal with suddenly self-imposed hyphenations.
2 to 4 letter abbreviation...
No UL? Certainly there were other options, (other than the dreaded ULL), and The University of Louisiana (TUL) should and could have been more creative. LoUiSiAna could have been LUSA, or not! Maybe use L.U.S.I. -the new old way to spell Lucy! What about LA, LAL, ULA, LRC, or LARC. And if we really need the hyphen- just throw it in there somewhere! (LA-RC)
I'm just as irritated as most of you about the appearant lack of stones of the ADministration, but this time I think maybe it just isn't a real big deal (in this case only, because I think we're outta here sooner than later).
This is just a rediculous conference(suckbelt) that is trying to remain vaguely relavent making this unnecessary announcement trying to make a headline or two. Unfortunately, there's not much the suckbelt can do to avoid the inevitable. The only question is weather the Cajuns will rage as a double-LLer in this suckbelt or if there is something in the works to get us out!!?!
Oh yea, Geaux Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns!

You clearly don't get it, the whole issue is not just so we can be called "UL". Who cares? Louisiana is what we want. Why on earth would we change our school name (to Lafayette for that matter) just so we can go by "UL"?
I don't really care if we're ULL, cause the truth is that's what we are. Just go by Louisiana and be done with it.
