2014 Branding Fiasco: UL-Lafayette or UL-L (SBC Reference Guide)

"use the guide so there is consistency in how the universities’ sports teams are referenced, it cannot and will not be mandated.” So, no one is being told to use these abominations or else, right? Then I say we keep on with the fight. Besides, it really changes nothing as far as the spoken word, and who knows, it may get rid of sportscasters using the "Lafayette" handle. So, we keep fighting...you make sure the guys at CBS understand they really aren't obligated to change anything. Its a situation that can change given the right circumstances like oh...I don't know, 10 or 15 burning couches on the lawn at Martin Hall with say several thousand students screaming UL all night long.... send lawyers, guns, and money...its going to be a long and dirty battle!
I'd be negligent if I didn't mention my boys at the Communication and Marketing office. Don't for one minute think that this group didn't have anything to do with this. In fact, as I'm 800 miles away, I can still smell a rat in the middle of this. El Presidente didn't make this move all on his own...he had help.

We were always referred to as SW Louisiana and on air called Southwest Louisiana

And we will be called "Lafayette" and get the Leopard logo.

First off, kill that freaking idea of University of Acadiana. Given the politics of our state, you know damn good and well Monore will stay ULM, and the M will get dropped. Second, we have to stay vocally and gear wear true to University of Louisiana. Third, it's a guideline, not a mandate.

ESPN already picked up on this and is showing UL-L on the screen and calling us ULL. This SUCKS.

For t-joe to not only cave on this issue, but to choose THIS as the abbreviation is absolutely the worst decision he could have made.

I usually don't care much either way with all this stuff, I just say UL cause that's what we are and figure everything else will fall into place over time. But t-joe has literally fukced us bad.

Georgia State and Georgia Southern have apparently agreed that one will be GS and the other GSU. So since they haven't had to resort to any hyphens it tells me that moanroe, despite their public pronouncements are the whining _____es behind this bull____.

For what it's worth, I just watched Travis Webb on KATC talking about the edict, and he made it a point to highlight the part of the statement that said "It cannot and will not be mandated." They were using "Louisiana" on their graphics. I might be a TOTAL naive DUMB_____, but I'm praying there's something at play we don't know about. If not, to quote Dante: "Abandon ALL hope, you who enter here!"
