Mark Hudspeth. Hudspeth has made the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns relevant in the Sun Belt, guiding them to the most successful stretch of football in school history. He's notched three-straight nine-win seasons at Louisiana after making the jump from Division II North Alabama, and he may be looking for another challenge now that he's proven himself in the shallow end of D-I football.

Hudspeth doesn't have a series of quality wins to hang his hat on. He's 0-6 against teams from BCS auto-qualifier conferences in his career. He did, however, hold Arizona and Florida to one-possession wins on the road despite having a severely outmatched roster. The young coach has a track record of success at the lower levels, but that may no longer be enough to earn the top job at Vanderbilt. The Commodores may instead look at candidates with more experience working with bigger programs.

Love you coach! Can't wait until next season with you coaching the Cajuns! Should be your best year. Thanks for everything you do!

My prediction is he does not get the Vandy job.

Vandy has had success in hiring head football coaches without head coaching experience. James Franklin had no head coaching experience prior to Vandy. This means Vandy will not narrow its search. They will not be afraid hire a top level coordinator from a major program. I look for them to do just that. It is a safer bet to hire a contemporary so if things go south everyone will understand. If you reach and take HUD you had better be right. I personally think HUD will do a great job wherever he goes (if he goes). But his hire would be a big risk, high reward right now. Most ADs are not equipped to make the decision that would be necessary to hire HUD right now.

Maybe we should keep Vandy's list handy "just in case".

Agreed. If I were Vandy's AD I'd certainly have him on my watch list, but would think his resume isn't complete yet.

From ESPN, Vandy is interviewing Brian Schottenheimer. He is the current OC for the St. Louis Rams.
