UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns fell just short of their third perfect game of the season as Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) no-hit Florida Atlantic in the nightcap of a doubleheader en route to a 4-0 victory.

Brignac worked 7.0 innings of no-hit ball and took a perfect game into the sixth inning before a Cajuns error allowed the first base runner of the game. Brignac retired a season 16 consecutive batters, topping the Cajuns’ previous high of 15 set against IUPUI and Grambling in Louisiana’s two perfect games this season.

Vallie Gaspard (Maurice, La.) reached on a bunt single back to the pitcher. She advanced to second base on a passed ball and moved to within 60-feet of home on a ground ball. The speedy Gaspard came around to score on an RBI fielder’s choice by Vanessa Soto (San Diego, Calif.) to give Louisiana a quick 1-0 edge.

Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) drew a four-pitch walk to begin the inning. Courtney Trahan (Maurice, La.) entered the game to run for Tankersley. Trahan advanced to third base as Soto doubled to right centerfield. A passed ball plated Trahan and moved Soto to third. An RBI single by Lana Bowers (Crosby, Texas) plated Soto and gave UL a 3-0 advantage after three complete.

The Lady Cajuns added a run in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. With a runner on second and two outs, Tankersley doubled to right centerfield to score the runner.

Pitching and defense took over from there and secured the Cajuns’ 12th consecutive win.
