let's not forget college baseball has changed since the 90's. The conference has added good teams and the other teams are putting more money into it. Every college sport is seeing more parody now, it's hard to do it year in and year out.

Also, comparing football to baseball is apples and oranges. You win 60% in your conference in baseball your pretty good. You win 60% in football your not winning anything. 100-62 in MLB awesome team. 10-6 in NFL wildcard.
