ARLINGTON, Texas - Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team pulled off a close 4-3 win over Texas-Arlington on Saturday. The victory improved the Cajuns improved to 7-10 on the season.
The Cajuns came up victorious at Nos. 2 and 3 in doubles play to clinch the point and the match. Sophomore Janusz Conradi and junior Arlen Domoney’s win at No. 2 secured the nail biter for UL.
“Doubles was the deciding point as the team battled back from 2-5 at No. 2 doubles to take the victory 8-6,” men’s coach Mark Jeffrey said.
Sophomore Jorge Delgado and freshman Stefan Hawkins defeated Gonzalo Bienzobas and Hugo Taracido 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Louisiana split with UTA in singles play. The Cajuns picked up wins at Nos. 1, 5 and 6. Sophomore Piotrek Banas defeated David Costa 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1, while Delgado came up victorious over Bienzobas 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 5. Hawkins bested Smith 7-6, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Cajuns face Colin County Community College in Plano, Texas on Sunday. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
