From day one when people reacted to him he knew he was negotiating from a position of power. The Last second win by Baer sealed the deal. He knows his worth...he know his time here is short...he know a BCS conference is within his grasp...if not this year it will be in the very near future. You all a hell bent is nailing the AD and President for something that I think is way beyond their control. HUD will go when he wants to go...no extension will stop him and the sooner we come to realize this the sooner we can move onto supporting the new guy, if there will be one, or supporting HUD and the new class of recruits.
What part of my post implied that an extension would stop him from going anywhere?

I just asked the question if he would or wouldn't have signed one 4-5 weeks ago when his name wasn't being brought up for the Vandy and Louisville jobs.

To your next point about things being beyond the AD and President's control, you are correct in that they cannot control what Hud does. But they could have offered him an extension prior to the last couple of days. That is within their control. Sure, Hud may have just sat on it, but the AD's office could have saved face by making it look like they tried. Alabama did this a month ago with Saban when he was rumored for the Texas job. Bama even said that Saban had the extension on his desk, but he hadn't signed it yet. Made them look proactive.

While I have no hope that an extension would stop a more financially gifted school like Vandy from snatching Hud, I was hoping that someone with some power at this university would have put some thought into setting themselves up in a better position financially if Hud was going to leave this season. If the $250,000 buyout number is true, then that doesn't seem like a very significant number to me.

And as Turbine pointed out, who knows what he would have signed had this been presented to him in December? There were people who said FAU didn't have a shot at CUSA, yet their admin made the effort and it paid off. I'm sure there were many who thought Gus Malzahn who was constantly mentioned for SEC jobs wouldn't take the ArkState job, but he did. Those ADs didn't think small or drag their feet.
I don't know why we can't get out of the Sun Belt but when I don't see a blood, guts, and feathers campaign to join, renew, and increase RCAF membership something seems to be amiss. Why wasn't there some URGENCY to replace Ken Winstead immediately or better yet how do we lose him to Seattle?

These kinds of issues would me say hmmm... if I'm the football coach and I'm assessing UL's commitment.

Williams: right candidates "need to understand Vanderbilt, who we are and what we want to be." Person who "fits" VU, not just a good coach.

That confirms that it will all be done at the coaches convention.

Winstead left for family reasons. He wanted to be closer to his children. He loved it here and thinks we have great potential. His departure had nothing to do with the working situation here. Now why it has taken so long to replace him is a question I cannot answer.
