Hud still in 2nd of this poll
http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=...nderbilt-coach
Let's be realistic and not fool ourselves. Hudspeth is a leading candidate for the Vanderbilt job.
While it's no sure indicator of which way their AD and administration will go, Hud is getting a lot of support on Vandy message boards: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=189&f=1603&t=12577707
And they are enthused about him for all the right reasons:
"SOG,
If we go after an offensive guru, I agree. Hud should be our first choice over Morris. For that very reason, he has been a winner at both head coaching jobs already plus, you forget to mention, Hud also has SEC experience, two years at Miss State. So he is familiar with what it takes to recruit in the SEC.
Even though I am still in the Mason camp, Hudspeth really has everything we are looking for
1. Proven winner as head coach- check
2. Motivator- check
3. Former assistant coach in the SEC- check
4. Former offensive coordinator at a service academy(hence academic school knowledge)- check
5. Graduation rates and academic progress at ULL football is the highest since 1982- check
6. Would cause our rivarly with Ole Miss to heat up, since Hud is a native Mississippian and could be a thorn in the paw of Hugh Freeze on the recruiting trail- check"
******
I hope what someone said about Mason or Morris is true--that there is a 5.2 million dollar buyout for leaving to be a coordinator somewhere, but no buyout for leaving to be a head coach.
But realistically, Hud will interview. And if they offer him, he's gone. I hope our athletic department is being proactive and not just hoping against hope he doesn't leave.
Interesting to see this USA Today piece does not mention Hud's name among the candidates, though that is essentially meaningless: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...coach/4365585/

Cajun-T, did Hud say he WAS goin to the Coaches Conference and that there were alway some Great speakers, while on your show?
Bottom line if Hud goes, Farmer must go if a new contract with AT LEAST a Million dollar buyout to help assist getting in a New Head Football coach and his staff! Arkansas State has been racking up with one Buyout after another!!! Come on Scott get the Big Contract Deal Done already!!!
Thanks Cajun T!!! Also, Huds contract as of this year only has a $250,000 buyout, right? If so, I sure hope for the PROGRAMS sake that Scott Farmer and Dr Savoie, have enough fore sight to make the buyout part of the contract a $MILLION$. Bumping Hud and his Assistants pay is one thing and extending his contract is another, BUT if Vandy(some big money Uni)comes calling its done, LOUISIANA MUST have a HUGE buyout!
So Scott Farmer and Dr Savoie and RCAF better get the lead out and put the HEAVY buyout clause in FIRST and Foremost!!! Then bump Huds pay to the top of the Belt, at least a MILLION and make every assistant he has the BEST paid in the belt. Most important for the program is at least a MILLION on the buyout!!!
Anyone worth their salt would not sign a contract extension before they knew their worth. If Hud goes to the convention...and interviews with Vandy he can come back and say...Scott...this is what Vandy is offering...can you match it? Anyone in that situation would do the same. I know I have. I don't think Hud actually wants to go to Vandy. That is a hard place to win. It's not a given. But...Franklin did it...so it's not out of the realm of possibility that Hud could replicate Franklin's success. Really people let's be pragmatic here and realize that Hud wouldn't do an extension without interviewing elsewhere first.
If Hud leaves he will be the first head coach in school history to ever become a college head coach again. Not the desired outcome to be sure, but nonetheless a sign of progress.
